I had a bit of a rattle around 3k rpm - thought it might be a failing cat. It turned out to be a loose AC tensioner pulley assembly (I don't have the hook on the passenger side of the engine bay which partially supports the tensioner assembly). Tightened that back down, but I had already pulled the muffler and b-pipe.

Come to find out, there's nothing in my cat. What used to be a California-spec heavy metal 3-way catalytic converter is now a completely empty shell. Apparently the whole thing was disintegrated and ejected.

DIY Auto Tune is sending me another ECU to test with. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'm going to replace the distributor wiring harness with a brand new unit with insulated wiring. If that combination doesn't solve the problem, I will replace the distributor.

It's nice to have a plan, anyway. :)

Severe engine bay clunk diagnosed - passenger side motor mount failure. A new one is on the way from Toyota.

Maybe I can get JCH13 to make me a poly replacement out of the failed mount in case the OE one fails again...

How does delrin sound? Poly is a PITA to machine...

Though I'd be curious to learn how to cast it!

I wonder how much vibration it'd add if the side mount was delrin...

A 450 HP turbocharged I4 with no balance shafts and you're worried about vibration?

Should I be worried about my rear view being blurry while idling too?

Might as well put an engine cage and solid mounts in while I'm at it, eh?

It's just a resin you mix and pour. Seen all kinds of examples using toothpicks to hold and center the parts to make custom motor mounts, bushings, etc. The particular example I remember is the 5SFE dogbone. Mix, pour, wait, magic! The trick is doing it slowly and not getting air bubbles.

Well saying the steps is easy. Actually doing it and winding up with a good result without smashing my head against a wall is whole different ball game...

I think they smeared oil all over the lens of their camera phone before taking those.

Watch here .

Heres one in Seattle but whats your budget?
Thanks; registered there so I'll definitely poke around.

I own a 96 850R that I swapped a 5sp into this summer - my first manual car. I also have a XJ as my backup/beater/dog mobile. I figured I'd get comfortable with a manual with this car and then sell/trade and move to something else. MR2's look like really fun cars.

Not really in any rush to buy and I was hoping to find something closer to 5-7k but who knows. I have to admit I haven't even looked at the bluebook values of these cars and it looks like people sell them for prices all over the place. If I find a deal I can't pass by on a nice example of one, I might buy it and sell the 850R after or try for a partial trade.

How are the insurance rates on MR2's? The insurance on my R is hilariously low even after getting arrested for getting nailed doing 142mph.

e: Sorry - didn't mean to thread jack.

Blue book is kind of irrelevant - it's a niche market car, so it's hard to haggle with book value unless someone doesn't know what they have.

I have a collector's insurance policy on mine and I pay $216/year for $12,000 stated value coverage, $250 deductibles, full glass coverage and 5,000 annual miles.

Unless something is horribly wrong with it (or if you're set on a turbo), go buy this today:
