lol!

Awesome job guys. Someday (maybe when I'm 40 or 50) Ill have your level of expertise.
Also, damn, nice TIG welding. Looks so clean.

Thanks. If you got a TIG welder and practiced a bit you could do that quality of weld in less than 3 months (maybe way less than 3 months) if you got torch time every day and cared about the results.

Welding is not that hard, however; you have to know what you are doing. The biggest problems are usually poisoning yourself or not a clean enough joint.

Average 'farmboy' just fires up his torch and goes to town 🙂.

Best bang for buck though is just taking your pieces down to a good machine/exhaust/engine/etc shop and asking can you set this up for $XX....

Much like soldering...I am pretty good, but it's much better to hit up a TV repair shop and have their guy that's bored do it with high end gear for a few bucks 🙂

this just doesnt make any sense to me. Can you please explain what the heck you are talking about?

Just a standard alky reply where he puts down someone who owns something or can do something better than he can, while simultaneously reminding us how much better he is.

"nice weld" isn't in his vocabulary, so he's gotta make sure we understand that JCH13 is just an "average farm boy" and not as good as him.

Didn't say that...a farm boy knows how to weld.

How are those Carbon Fiber valve covers going?

Never bothered. Maybe someday when I need a new block I'll go aluminum then it might make sense to go all out with weight reduction. Gotta keep those cocky Z06s behind me.

You don't get much at all.

Only anything that you say Alk.

Hey Jlee, I talked breifly with a guy in my town that has a '91 Turbo. Thing is immaculate. He has matched color powdercoated engine parts etc. beautiful car except its green.
Anyways, we were stopped at a light tonight and we said the usual "how do you do's" (hes in a RHD so easy to talk to, lol.) When the light turned green we took off, I got the leap on him but he blew past me so fricken fast it scared me. The sound was beautiful. Gave me willies down my spine. At the next light I could see his girlfriend giving him the gears for doing it, haha! I only went up to speed limit, but he was obviously above that.
So what I'm trying to say is: Turbo'd MR2's are the nuts.

Yeah, they can be surprising especially when someone's put as much work at jch and jlee have into it. I hope the FT-86 with turbo will bring that same old spirit back. You guys with your build threads are getting me reallllllllllly itchy for a BT swap.

Heh. Yeah, that'll happen... :awe:

They're a lot of fun. You should fly down to AZ sometime and check out a few cars. 😉

Best bang for you buck is do it yourself, the TV shop's "high-end" gear is probably just a temp. controlled soldering iron, soldering in a new component is fairly straightforward it's FINDING out what's bad that's the challenge..

I'm waiting for the dyno sheets to get emailed to me, but we stopped after this pull- I was happy with it and didn't want to risk blowing something up by pushing things any harder. 😛

328rwhp / 289rwtq at 21psi on race gas. 280rwhp at 15psi (91 tune) and 296whp at 17psi (93 tune). Cams will help a lot, but that's for another year.

Oh, and I had a cat welded in my b-pipe before I left - so if I ran a test pipe I'd have broken 300rwhp on pump and likely been a few over 330rwhp on race. 🙂

This is awesome and does not suck.
Are your temperatures remaining manageable?
Now all you need is to pass a smog test!

nice numbers!! how much does ur car weigh?

Thanks! ~2900lb.

I don't have an air intake temp gauge, but we were making back to back pulls at 85f ambient and had no issues. Aaron from ATS said that my problem with the smog test was caused by sitting in line - the cat is far enough downstream that idling for a long time cools the cat enough to make it not work properly. I need to hit one with no wait so the cat is still hot.
