Heh, after a brief trip on the highway, I've learned that the car is nowhere near as fast as the open dump makes it sound. Time to get off the 7psi wastegate spring and hook up the boost controller..

I'm pretty sure it's something in the exhaust system somewhere, but the exhaust manifold was torqued to spec, the turbo / adapter was made as tight as I could get it, and the downpipe doesn't seem to be loose...

I read over at the oc too, no solid leads yet, but can you do the "hose-to-the-ear" trick and isolate it a bit more? The snippet of sound on the video, does it keep making that sound if you hold the throttle open?

Turns out the funky noise was the internal wastegate flapping around.

I'll be pulling the turbo to have that welded shut..maybe tomorrow (too much to do today). I just ordered my ROM tune from ATS Racing, too - now I'll need to drop the fuel tank and get the pump replaced.

Wheels have been dropped off to get refinished - ordering tires tonight.

Counting down to the Toyota meet at Colt State Park, RI - it's June 11. I'm running short on time!

I saw a 1991 MR2 on Craigslist for sale in Dallas... and I started to wonder what they'd look like without the gaudy wing.

The difference is night and day! With the wing deleted the MR2 goes from ricey to mini-Ferrari!!

I like the wing on the back actually... it's not too gaudy but adds a little flare. Although, I'm not sure how much it actually helps handling :p.

Wastegate problem: Fixed.

Fuel rail is out - working on installing the new rail/regulator/injectors, then the tank comes out for a Walbro 255.

I should have mentioned this before, but I have a clean set of Denso 440cc (low resistance, peak and hold, top fed). I'm guessing you're going bigger than 440, but if these work for your project, I can dig them out and send them your way. I've had them sitting around for years.

Ah, no shit? It would make sense, otherwise the 7M-GTE would have been the ONLY thing in Toyota's lineup using that particular part. The NA models were even using saturated (not P/H) 315cc's.

I love how Toyota over-engineered their early 90's lineup. A stock built 3S-GTE and 7M-GTE could really take a lot of additional power before they even needed to be opened up.

The Denso 440's in the MK3 Supra were used as an upgrade part for many cars, much like we, in turn, used to buy the 550's out of the FC turbo and FD RX7.

EDIT: I think the FD 550's were side feed, so not those, IIRC.

Yep, stock Gen2 are 440cc. The new injectors are 540's from a Gen3 3sgte. With a higher pressure FPR, they should be flowing around 600cc.

The fuel rail does not want to go back in, though...going out to fight with it some more.

By the way, where in NH are you guys? I recall JLee saying in the Hanover area? I'm moving to Southern Maine in a couple of months.

Phew, that's done. All the lines to the tank have been disconnected as well - tomorrow we'll get under the car and drop the tank, install the fuel pump, and hopefully have it all running again.

This is what was holding up the fuel rail - all it does is cover a section of the wiring harness (which is already taped up like the wires that are elsewhere in the engine bay). With this out of the way, the rail went in beautifully.
