ive seen the result of improper use of clay(whole bunch of light scratches) i have used it myself it works great for cleaning the surface and if you keep up on kneading it stays fresh. in my experence in using it on fresh paint it doesnt add anything but an un desired step that doesnt increase the shine or make anything easier. it does work very well taking overspray off but i painted jlee's whole car at once with a slow reducer and i can assure you overspray isnt an issue on josh's car! but the short of it all is that i care for that paint so its not gonna get clayed

Clay doesn't scratch, and it's good insurance for any rubbing work (especially polishing). Plus he can take care of any overspray that exists.

The guys at MAACO are pros too, it's also been proven in hundreds of posts that paint/bodywork guts fail much of the time on paint correction and final polish.

PROPER use of clay should not damage paint more than a very light polish can handle.

Heh, that'll happen.

That is the point Black2NA made, that proper use won't damage the paint. But he also points out (in not so many words) that paint is less than a year old, has spent 95% of it's life indoors, and won't benefit from clay-baring.

Looks very nice JLee... I wish I had seen this thread sooner maybe I could have helped out lol. I didn't have time to read through the whole thing yet but do you have any plans to go to Epping with it or do any auto-x? I'm part of SCCNH and that's a pretty fun club

Thought about autox on Sunday but I've spent silly money to spend the next weekend racing at Summit Point, so I might just enjoy a day off instead. I'll hit Epping again at some point; in '08 I ran 13.65 @ 103mph and I'm hoping to knock at least .8 off of that now.

Myself and Black2NA will be at the SCCNH Auto-x on Sunday fwiw. I really like the club too.

Amp is in, oil pressure gauge is in, engine lid fans are in, and I have maybe 20 minutes worth of interior reassembly left.

We're getting there!

I've developed an exhaust leak. I believe it's from the turbo adapter, as the last time I pulled the turbo, I noticed that the nuts had loosened up a little. Apparently torquing them down again didn't do the trick, so I now have enough Nord-Lock washers to fix the problem.

It took me 37 minutes to go from 'completely intact engine bay' to 'turbo ready to pull', with the one exception being that I still have to disconnect the oil drain line. I didn't have time to finish pulling it tonight, but all that's left is slide under the car, unscrew the turbo's oil drain from the pan, then lift the turbo/manifold assembly out of the car. Total time, maybe 45 minutes.

I'm hoping to have it done (again) by this weekend.

I helped install an FMIC on a friend's speed3 and now every time we meet up he asks if anyone wants their bumper taken off.

lol. ya, when you have everything nearly memorized it sure makes things go faster. Stripping down my car for paint prep went alot faster the second time.

All back together and running beautifully. JCH13 stopped by yesterday - we put some Nord Locks on the turbo/adapter nuts (two of which were loose), replaced the 17mm nuts with 14mm, and miraculously were able to put much more torque on them.
