JK2 seems slow on my system...

I have /cg_showfps enabled and I have noticed several areas where the FPS dips down into the 20s and is noticeably slower. Most of the time my FPS hover around 80-100.

My system specs are:

P3 1000@1333 (133mhz FSB)
512mb PC133 RAM
GF3 Ti-200 @ 200/500 running the 23.12 drivers
Windows XP

Of course I don't expect the game to run perfect, as it is a new game. But I wasn't expecting slow-downs like this since I have a high end system (way above the recommended specs) and since the game is based on the Q3A engine.

I have tweaked the JK2 config files and most of the "eye candy" is turned off.

Are many of you noticing the same thing? Any suggestions?

It gets extremely slow for me as well in spots. Not often, but enough to be annoying, especially since I'm already running at 800x600.

P3@945
GF2 Ti w/ 28.32
256 RAM
Win98

I have found that it doesn't matter on my system how much eye candy I turn on or off, it only effects the FPS by 1-3.

It also depends on the map, online I have seen it go down as low as 18FPS in a huge open area with like 5 or 6 guys dueling. (800x600 res)

Athlon 800
512 Ram
Geforce 2 GTS-V
Windows XP

Whats wierd though is even when it slows down its still very playable. Ive been playing online all night tonight with my friend.

I have tired it yet, but I heard that turning off the shadows helps. It runs pretty slow on my machine too in some parts. It got unplayable during the part where you have to free the mining people and have to destroy some AT-STs

Mine slows down at times on some multiplayer maps with 20+ people. This is probably my video card more than anything, but your case doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary according to what I've seen.

Use simple shadows - the other option is totally broken. Even so, you're system should be performing better. I get a good framerate at 800x600 with everything on maximum with a Athlon 750 and a Radeon SDR.

Overall, my framerates are good. In fact, the majority of the time my FPS are in the 80+ range (even 120+ at times)

But, I have noticed several areas in the SP game where they will drop from 100+ down to around 30. Its certainly noticeable.

Is this large variance typical for everyone else? I am just one of those that notice the slowdowns; others may not.

from all the forums I have visited everyone is having problems with frame rates so its not just a couple people.
