Rowlings eventually won the 3 year court battle and the courts threw out the case. They threw out the claims about Muggles for whatever reason. I really don't understand why, Rowlings attorneys said she "doctored" evidence. I find this odd considering her book was published first, but you know how it goes with high priced law teams vs single individuals.

Also another odd side note to the story is that Rowling?s provided virtually no documents or records, nor anything of any substantive value? she claimed to have lost the majority of records she was originally ordered to produce, including her original manuscript. She never even showed up in court.

Last word is she was refiling the case.

Eh, Everytime a movie is coming out, I download it and burn a few spindles of copies and then drop them off at my local elementary schools

As an adult with children I like the movies as much as my 8 year old does. As for her fortune eclipsing Bill Gates after a certain point does it even matter except bragging rights? Man, I could live quite happily on $100 million as easily as I could with $20 billion. Except charity how much can you really spend? Think of all of the interest you're making on that amount of money!

She will never reach the top 5 wealthiest.

IIRC she just recently broke $1billion. Thats will all the hundreds of millions of books sold and the first two movies. Bill Gates is hovering at around $36billion.

Just isnt going to happen.

If George Lucas couldn't catch up to Bill Gates then I still think JK Rowling has a ways to go before she can.

This reminds me of a old scene from the Simpsons:

"Did you know that disco record sales were up 400% for the year ending 1976? If these trends continue... A-y-y-y!" - Disco Stu

Thats only about 3 billion, 747 million, 500 thousand dollars. (3,747,500,000) if the approximate book cost was 14.99.

Isn't bill gates worth a measely 40 billion?? That [JK Rowlings networth] in no way will eclipse BILLY GATES networth.

Here is a much better story on the case:
http://www.nylawyer.com/news/02/09/091902h.html

Cliff Notes:
- The two muggles have nothing in common other than the name. (The word muggles dates back to the 1800's.)
- The HP books and the other author's books have nothing in common other than a boy wearing glasses and the name(s).
- The other author's book was never sold to the public before 2001.
- The other author's book was shown to the public ONCE.
- The other author submitted doctored evidence to the court, I.E. she lied.

P.S. You can't copyright names or short phrases anyway!

And the only reason Billy Boy isn't climbing even higher is that he's offloading the money as fast as he can make it - because he's run out of ways to spend it himself. I don't see Rowling giving millions upon millions of dollars away. I read a few pages of a borrowed HP book once and found it very stupid and contrived. Hardly the kind of stuff that should EVER make someone one of the world's richtest. I've written better stories (Albeit much shorter. They weren't 48373489247832784323 pages long) in English class.

I have no respect for her whatsoever and refuse to buy any Harry Potter, I seen this in a newspaper over 6 years ago when the original author that she copied off tried sueing her (rightfully so), but unfortunately nothing came from it. Must have given the judge a handout, ah well.

But on a lighter note, didn't Billy search through rubbish in bins for code written by other people :D

factor in movies and DVDs and such ..... now i hate harrypotter even more

Versus $100 - $300 on 90% of computers sold? Chances are slim especially when you consider how much higher the profit margin must be on windows than a book (how much does it cost to print a book? Significantly more than pressing a CD I'd wager).
