hey guys,

so just set up my htpc and am playing around with some mkv files.

the pc is connected to the tv via the standard monitor cable (no hdmi yet, haven't put in software etc).

its working perfect for some mkv files but for others (e.g. planet earth) it's really jittery. its definitely not a ram / cpu issue - its a dual amd 5600+ with 2gb of ram, and while playing back the cpu is at 10-15% usage, and i have incredible amounts of ram remaining - practically using nothing.

windows XP machine, fresh clean install, nothign else running on it yet.

any ideas?

ok this may sound silly, but coreavc is just a codec right? so i'd view the files in WMP then? or do i need coreplayer or something too?

I had probs with the planet earth mkv's as well. I use mediaportal so I switched to using the powerdvd codec which enabled hardware acceleration & the prob was sorted.
What gpu do you have? Any ATI 2xxx, Nvidia 8xxx & above wil have hardware h264 decoding...

my issue's fixed :) using coreavc codecs with media player classic, works like a charm.

actually my humble nvidia 6600 does hardware h.264 decoding as well. my rig (amd athlon xp-m 2400+, asus a7n8x-x, nvidia 6600 and 1 gig ram) plays any 720p video without a single frame dropped. the secret is indeed coreavc. best codec out there.
