MIAMI -- NBA referee Joe Forte isn't a "Parrothead," apparently.

Forte ejected singer Jimmy Buffett from his seat along the baseline at Sunday's game between the Knicks and Heat.

Forte said he tossed Buffett for using profanity.

"He was there with his son," said Heat coach Pat Riley, who had a front-row seat for the commotion. "I don't think it was that bad. I mean, come on, a few words."

The altercation delayed the game several minutes in the fourth quarter. Heat officials said Buffett, whose fans are called "Parrotheads," was escorted to another seat in the arena for the remainder of the game.

"He was using profanity," Forte said. "There was a little boy sitting next to him and a lady sitting by him. He used some words he knows he shouldn't have used, so I asked security to move him to another location.

"We don't have to take that kind of thing."

Forte said he did not know the man was the legendary singer until someone mentioned it to him after the incident.

"I told Joe Forte, I said, 'Do you know who that is?' " Riley said. "I said, 'Do you mean to tell me you've never been a Parrothead in your life?' So that tells you where our officials are coming from.

"He thought I was insulting him. He wanted to give me a technical for calling him a Parrothead."

One too many margaritas, I guess. ;)

Good article.

Didn't know that happened to old Jimmy Buffett. I'd heard he can get a little loud when he wants.

Oh well, at least he supports his team. ;)

Come on now, Beast.... Basketball rocks!

NBA refs have been edgy ever since they started getting busted en masse for income tax evasion for trading in their 1st class tickets and pocketing the difference. Joe Forte has a quick trigger, but Steve Javie is far worse.

"...is suck"?!? Look, if you've haven't figured it out by now, this type of rejoinder only serves to make its' author appear incapable of original thought and basic sentence composition. Grow up.

UG,

<<< Incapable of puncuational thinking, are you? >>>

One: It's punctuation.
Two: Adding an "al" at the end is novel, albeit incorrect.
Three: Adding an apostrophe to the end if "its'" indicates possesion, and is entirely correct. "It's" is short-form for "it is".

Really, why should I go through the trouble of pointing out your ignorance? You are doing a commendable job on your own.

Craig

Chansen,

It's is the contraction of "it is". Its is the possesive. Its' is not a valid word.

Lay off the grammar flames. It's Off Topic. You only get burned by someone who knows more grammar than you if you pick on other people's grammar.

edit: I better use the word it's correctly myself.

Aahh, I stand corrected. For all these years, I've been using it in similar fashion to owner's names that end in "s". That's what happens when you've only Engineering professors marking papers instead of English profs. Still, 2 out of three isn't bad, and the main point against "is suck" stands. It's a detraction and only serves to make this place seem like a teen hangout.

BTW, NEW?!? Check the profile - I registered for this forum on the first day, and was around for the UBB version as well. Though I've been guilty of a few minor transgressions, I generally try to add to discussions and help people where I can. My apologies to Jimmy Buffett and friends.

Also, while my dander is up, I didn't start the grammar flame war. My initial post in this thread was a misguided attempt to rid this place of "is suck" posts. Not because of grammar, but because it sounds stupid. I normally couldn't give a dingo's kidney about spelling or grammar.

Regards,
Craig
