600 is the new 500?
For pitchers it looks like 250 is the new 300.

Nothing outstanding. He's just a big dude that connects the ball and bat. I'm gonna go with no.

Also a 5 time all star. Not sure how many of those were voted in. In any case, it will all come down to if he retires with a clean record and stays that way. 600 is definitely the new 500.

Yes, I think so. Baseball-reference has his HoF numbers as:

Hall of Fame Monitor Batting - 145 (88), Likely HOFer ? 100
Hall of Fame Standards Batting - 53 (59), Average HOFer ? 50

Text

His similar batters are, among others:

1. Harmon Killebrew (875) *
2. Mike Schmidt (874) *
3. Frank Thomas (844)
4. Sammy Sosa (842)
5. Fred McGriff (836)
6. Jeff Bagwell (836)
7. Reggie Jackson (832) *
8. Gary Sheffield (823)
9. Willie McCovey (808) *
10. Mark McGwire (798)

1. Carlos Delgado (872)
2. Willie McCovey (853) *
3. Harmon Killebrew (842) *
4. Willie Stargell (840) *
5. Mickey Mantle (838) *
6. Jeff Bagwell (836)
7. Frank Thomas (836)
8. Mike Schmidt (834) *
9. Fred McGriff (829)
10. Manny Ramirez (828)

A nice collection of names. It doesn't mean Thome's a HoF'er, but the statistics point to him making it.

I think 600 has supplanted 500 as a 'lock', since 500 is clearly not a shoe-in. I think Thome could get in with a bit less tho because his OPS is so remarkable.

He hasn't been just a DH and was an infielder just as much, but wasn't a stellar defender by any stretch either. So given that he's up for consideration based on his offense alone (while playing a very admirable 18+ seasons in the league), he would make it very easy for voters if he hits another 50 out of the park in the next couple years of games. 600 for a 'clean' player is undeniable imo.

Maybe, his off the field work is pretty impressive too.

This.

Thome is absolutely an HoF'er. Sometime this season, he will have generated his 3000th run. :Q

Another guy who is HoF-worthy and is seldom mentioned as such is Jeff Bagwell.

Yes. Everyone loves this guy and that's a huge factor along with all the stats, considering who gets to vote.

Frank Thomas will get in and he only hit 521.

The Big Hurt was, in his prime, a better player than Thome. Plus he has 2 MVP's, and was a good defensive 1st baseman.

Thomas was cranky, though.
