Jim DeMint wasn't that good anyway since he voted to raise the minimum wage, voted for the budgets approved by Bush, and voted for all the wars plus medical vouchers.

It would be nice for Jeffersonian Democrat Bob Conley to take his place.

Unfortunately, that's not going to happen because South Carolinians no longer value States' Rights like they did in John C. Calhoun's day.

Deathroes of the Tea Party, let's hope so! I guess President Obama being reelected was his Waterloo?

It's nice to see him leave, although he's obviously put his finger in the wind and realizes that his nutbag contingent is on the wane. God knows what mischief he will spread from The Heritage Foundation.

And knowing SC and Governor Haley, she will just pick another right wing wack a doodle.

Won't be changing any votes coming from that state.

That's what I'm afraid of too!

There has to be a wide stance thing or something. He as 2 years left?

Terrible to see him go but at least this will ensure the Heritage Foundation continues to be a non-biased source of factual information.

New rules for congress are the big reason many leave before their term is up. Notice how he is leaving before 2013 and the next congress swearing in.

Haley will just pick another rightwing jackleg to replace JD - probably Tim Scott or Mick Mulvaney, who are both tea party types (and congressmen). I would guess Scott because he's black, and the GOP knows it has to start establishing minority cred after the way the election went.

I read that Nikki Haley can appoint herself to replace Demint! Considering her low approval ratings within South Carolina, it might just happen . . .

edit: Does Demint hold any prominent positions in the Senate?

The Republican Party is zombie bit. Their cutting limbs off to just save the party. This has been a devastating defeat for the right wing. This is what happens you go for broke and lose so badly. You extend yourself, then all of sudden you're on your ass!

I want to see Boehner's hands, bloodied with Demint's scalp

Senator DeMented is just taking his big chance to cash in at the Heritage Foundation.

It will be interesting to see how South Carolina's election looks in 2014 with two simultaneous senate campaigns. Having a second seat available might help insulate Senator Graham from the RINO Hunters who've been hoping for his scalp next cycle.

Representative Tim Scott, a Tea Party favorite from Charleston, is the likely pick if Governor Haley decides to appoint an actual Senator. If she wants just a place-holder in the office, look for her to name David Wilkins (Bush administration ambassador to Canada).
