Maybe even Ripken's All-Star Game dinger, though that's a stretch. I wonder how Ichiro Suzuki would hit one-handed...

Now taking a dive to give Strahan the sack record? That's a whole different ballgame. That's some down-home original-recipe slow-cooked fail sauce. Maybe the worst thing Favre ever did on the field.

Elway would never have done that. Fall down and give the enemy a record? Elway would sooner give Strahan his toes in a box with a pink bow and a card that says "Call Me".

What are you talking about, and how did, presumably, football, get entered into this diatribe?

It is worth noting that Abbott once tripled in a spring training game (in 1991 off of veteran Rick Reuschel) when in the American League and it is widely believed that he would not have been any more a liability than any other pitcher when batting.

How on earth did he manage this?? :Q

What's confusing here? IIRC, he hit over .500 while at Michigan...

Triples are pretty darned rare as it is, let alone from a one-handed pitcher.

Ah, but if you knew of Jim Abbott's hitting prowess in his pre-American League days, you wouldn't be so confused...

Impressed, not confused. I think it's impressive that a guy with one hand can hit off a major league pitcher.

I respect what Jim Abbott has accomplished in his life but I have a hard time believing that. If you can hit .500 against major college competition, you should be able to do something at the plate in MLB. He was 2 for 21 (.095) in his NL AB's with no power, no walks, and striking out half the time. That's miserable even by pitchers' standards. Maybe somebody can find a link to his college stats, I couldn't.

Pete Gray had pretty dismal batting stats too, with no power whatsoever. He was such a liability for the Browns (and that was in 1945 when the talent pool was already really low due to war) that a lot of his teammates openly hated him during the half season he was used as a gate attraction. Batting with one arm doesn't work.

So, I'm a bit late getting back to this party:

How was me pointing out your rant on american football trollbait?

Just a bit confused here..
