Because, at the time, millions of people believed in him and believed in his message. They saw him as a bearer of hope, inspiration, and change in the world. For many of those who were alive during his presidency it was one of the most exciting times in politics in this country. I think to deny any of that is just silly. Whether or not you agree with his politics, he was liked because he embodied a spirit that was extremely popular across america.

I assume this is in reference to LBJ and not JFK? JFK was from Massachusetts.

Yeah... if they were referring to the assassination as being the "best thing" to come out of TX, that's pretty low.
