One more war between the Israelis and their neighbors would be disruptive to oil prices, bad for US relations with countries whose good will we need, and nasty for the stock market. As for another Six Day War style rout, I doubt it. Note that the Yom Kippur War was not like that. U.S. intervention would be foolish. IF both sides had a treaty and a BORDER (which would require politically unfeasable partition) that could be patrolled by a UN observer force that might work. It does in the Sinai. However, the mingling of enemies within Israel means they will be at each others throats forever.

I agree that the US has her share of domestic problems, but that is no excuse to ignore and not be a part of the world stage. Isolationism is not the answer. Especially if the US wants to continue her role as a world leader. History has shown that civilizations that turn to isolationism wither and die. China, at one time the most advanced civilization in the world, closed it's borders and turned within itself. Look at it now. Japan, at one time a closed and isolated country, opened it's borders and flourishes.

"The US got the role of "cop" because while preparing for a war with the former Soviet Union, we developed an infrastructure that could project power anywhere in the world (except Tibet... don't get me started on Tibet and the lousy chinese)."

yo one thing i don't get it, Tibet has been a soverignty of China for the past 5 government(yuan dynasty, ming synasty, chin dynasty, Demacrate government, communist government) let say about 5-600years. until last time i check, it is "still" soverignty of china.
but the chinese are wrong to put Tibet into it's soverignty map.
just wondering how long have the U.S.A own the soverignty of America? and does the native american(indina) like the U.S government owning the america? ( i think native would prob prefer to have their own nation).
but for you american, it is ok for you to own america, but it is not ok for china to own Tibet? WTF for U.S.A been the internation police, I think this police is been corrupt.
if you look into history, China have dump more money(they don't have) and give more benfit to Tibet, then the USA government ever done for the american native.
for example
during the 60' after then demacrate/communist war in china there is shortage of food, 30 million chinese die of hunger, but during that period there are still enough valuable food senting to Tibet. if that happen in U.S.A during 60' do you think the U.S.A government would do the same for the natives???(doubt it)
DaBoneHead if you really want to be the man of justice, why don't you start on where you live, give the native back what is rightfully belong to them.
for USA to tell china to giveup Tibet, is like marfia telling people don't commit crime.
just my opinion.
