What a pile of BUSHWIT !!! :Q

There is no such thing as excommunication in the Jewish religion, except by small groups of self-styled "authorities" who are only such by their own narrow-minded definitions. The same kind of crap exists in Isreal, among the ultra-orthodox maniacs who try to define who is or is not a Jew. It doesn't work that way.

Are you trying to imply that there were political ties to this action? I just can't imagine that! ;)

Well, HARVEY (Hi Guy) just took the words out of my mouth. Everybody has their Wackos and Judism is no exception. Kudos, Harv.

I have NOTHING to do with NewsMax.com :D

denali - This is a pretty feeble attempt. Come on, you can dig up better stuff than this to lambaste Gore and Lieberman, can't you? A bit embarrassing for you, isn't it?

Technically, the Jewish religion does contain the concept of seperating someone who did something wrong-I think it was the story of miriam.
However, it is ALWAYS used in a political context nowadays, when groups excommunicate the leader of some other group who they disagree with. In this case, it's pretty meaningless (IMO), because the people who would back this up already would have voted against lieberman because of some of his comments.

Harvey - Your the man, you hit the nail on the head.

Today, the Beit Din is used symbolically as a divorce platform, and sometimes the judges in these courts let the power to go their head and try and start making major decisions like excommunication. Every religious group has their fanatics and lose cannons. Judiasm is no different. If you were to drive up to their neighborhood on a saturday you would see what I am talking about.

Rabbi Yehuda Levin of New York, who estimated the beth din''s ruling represents "tens of thousands of Jews in Brooklyn and other parts of the country," and perhaps as many as 150,000 Orthodox Jews.

In other words, it represents his views and he hopes that of others.

"Joe Lieberman has brought this excommunication upon himself by flatly trying to say that orthodoxy is one way when orthodoxy is the opposite direction of what he said it was," said the Rev. Lou Sheldon with the Christian lobbying group Traditional Values Coalition.

Ok...the reverend with the Christian lobbying group is now an expert on Orthodox Judaism.??

Anyone who looks at Lieberman's voting record would be hard pressed to find any correlation with Orthodox Judaism. If he can't walk the walk, he shouldn't be featuring his faith in the campaign.

that's a trash news site, I just read some story there about Clinton running for president again. Give me a break. :)

Anyways that comment from the reverend there was about orthodoxy, which can be seen as very similar in both Christian and Jewish religions (old testament).

You guys crack me up. You attack the messenger because you don't like the message. Nice try, but they reported the facts. Whether or not one agrees with the decision, it is nonetheless, a simple fact reported by a news source. Any opinion of that source, one way or the other, does not alter this.

No, Pennstate, you have no point. Unlike the The New York Torah Court, you're just some nothing at a BBS.

Some "facts," Russ! AFIC, Rabbi Joseph Friedman and his so-called "Torah Court" are legends in their own minds.

I was born Jewish. The only one who has the power to "excommunicate" me from that is me, and morons like this are part of why I did so, a long time ago. :D

Isn't newsmax like the onion?

I could be wrong...

Anyway, it seems made up. Anyway, it is probably some nutjob making it up.

BTW, russ, not more than a month or two ago you trash talked newsmax because they said some stuff about your boy George Dubya. ;) You also made fun of many other sites including a subsite of MSN when they ran some anti-Dubya column. The pot calling the kettle black?

Russ, just look at the other articles on that site and maybe you'll remember why you insulted newsmax not long ago in the first place.

What Excommunication Means for Lieberman for all those who claim newsmax.com is a right-wing waco news outlet. Here is a pro Lieberman position on NewsMax. As to those who accuse me of trying to help Bush that is funny because I'm not voting for him. Most would say the person I'm going to vote for would help Gore win!

Thought for the day.

In a small Eastern European town a man went through the community slandering the rabbi. One day, feeling suddenly remorseful, he begged the rabbi for forgiveness and offered to undergo any penance to make amends. The rabbi told him to take a feather pillow from his home, cut it open, scatter its feathers in the wind, then return to see him. The man did as he was told, then returned to the rabbi and asked, "Am I now forgiven?" "Almost," came the response. "You just have to do one more thing. Go and gather all the feathers."

"But that's impossible," he replied. "The wind has already scattered them."

"Precisely," the rabbi answered. "And although you truly wish to correct the evil you have done, it is as impossible to repair the damage done by your words as it is to recover those feathers.
