Jewels in Watches

A lot of the nicer watches have jewels in the mechanisms. What are they there for?

The jewels in current watches are probably synthetic rubies. The 'jewels' are mainly to reduce friction on the moving parts.

Yup.

The D'Arsonval movement meters in our Allen & Heath mixers have jeweled movements too.
