If the LCD was correct on the Yamaha we were riding we hit 52. It was a three person model with the biggest engine and the two of us combined weighed ~260 lbs. Normally we would hit 45-48 but this once we did 52, man, what a rush.

My honda Aquatrax tourbo does 65Mph or so. 165 HP

My non turbo aquatrax has 125hp and does mid 50's Mph.

Love my two ski's

Ours will top out around 67mph according the speedometer. But the lake has to be pretty flat to hit that. Normally 50-55 in chop.

Yamaha 1200 with 125hp motor.

I completley forgot about bassboats.... I retract my previous statement about "only cigarette boats"

You can easily hit 50 on most models. I've gotten a 220hp Seadoo to 70mph in a matter of seconds with plenty more left in the tank. However, at that speeds it gets really scary. Plus the lake has 45mph speed limit.

My old bass boat would go over 60 mph and my current ski boat will do about 55 on smooth water, but it could go a lot faster if I switched from a ski oreinted prop. The SeaDoo XP waverunner at my lakehouse does ~60 also.

Don't forget that bass boats are very fast boats, much faster than a normal boat.

Rented a four-stroke in Maui about 3 weeks ago and I was getting up to 55 mph. Don't know the specs of it though. If it wasn't so choppy out there and I didn't weigh 200 I'd have probably gone faster. Didn't feel like it was really pushing it.

I've got 2 2003 Kawasaki 3-seaters that I've topped at 55 with 2 people on it. Of course that's the spedometer and on a boat those things are notoriously unreliable, but with 3 it goes about 47-48 and with just 1 person about 57 is the highest I've seen...

The answer will make you laugh, it is rather redneck. It is because of fishing tournaments. They willl be on a big lake with a set time to fish and the spots they want to try can be all over the lake so they need the boats to be as fast as possible to maximize lure in water time. I know it sounds silly, but it is the truth.

Your point? Did you not read....all my watercraft have had their speed verified with GPS. My ski boat only tops out at ~55 is because I have a torque prop on it instead of a speed prop. With a speed prop the boat would easily do over 60 mph and probably closer to 70 mph. It has a fuel injected Mustang HO 5.0 engine in it.

WRONG. I have an 18 foot deckboat (Harris) with a 175 hp i/o on it and I can get it up to about 53mph on a calm day with the proper tilt and trim of the propeller. Normally she runs about 47-48mph without adjusting anything. And my boat is old ('88). There are a lot of faster recreational boats out there. One of my neighbors has a swisher with a 180hp outboard that easily tops the 65mph mark.

very wrong....
US Aircraft carriers can get up to 40 kts which converts to 40 Knots = 46.1 MPH

and thats just the "unclassified" speeds on Forrestal which was a Oil powered carrier...
the Nukes are even faster..

if a boat the size and weight of a skyscraper can break 40+ mph on the water I know damn well that Offshore powerboats break 100...

Yes, the offshore powerboats do 100+. But it takes a LOT of power to push a boat through the water at high speeds.
