My mind was in a similar direction really, particulary the gelled gas part. I felt like they'd make for good drone delivered Molotovs. Have them ignite a small flare attached to the bottle at release, maybe put a length of ribbon trailing from the neck for tail drag, to keep the base down and prevent tumbling? Could be cheap and accurate.
