They are Muay Thai, and as with most full contact I've been involved with the match is over on KTFO. I was trained to do what Machida does i.e Rei to the dude I dropped then everyone else. I did not always do it. A lot of meatheads fighting "dirty". I'd of tea bagged them if it had been a thing back then. 😛 I did fight in some backwater single A rated events where, as fucked up as it is, the dude had 2 minutes to get back to the line. They could also verbally tap to strikes. My attitude was - Bro, he got a foot or shin to the chin and his head just bounced off the basketball court. Ain't no way he is getting back to the line in 120 seconds, let me go already.

You are dead on about many dojos and point karate in the states though. The center judge would instruct to Seiza with your back turned to the injured competitor.

Man, where I grew up it was considered a clean fight if someone didn't kick your face and dig a picture of your gf out of your wallet when they were done.

fckn rules... I started out in taekwondo in the early 60's. Got into a "tiff" with the sensei who thought I was using his teachings for bad things...ended up studying kenpo for about 18 months under Sterling Peacock...who was an Ed Parker shodan.

Served me well when I enlisted and went to war. Never went back to it after I got out.
