There's a cool story about the lady that ran that island back in WWII. I forget her name but I remember she lost both her son and her husband to fighting the Nazis and The Blitz. She was in charge of the place when the Germans occupied it. Basically used the rules of etiquette and monarchy to her advantage at all times with her aristocratic German wards, who respected that kind of thing because they came from aristocratic backgrounds themselves. Brits were seen as equals by the Nazis; even if still an enemy, at least they weren't Slavs, Poles or gypsies, you know? This lady ran a campaign of psy ops, obstruction and sabotage on them for years, and with a sneering Norman smile the whole time. Kept them miserable and not terribly effective at their duties I believe.
I specifically remember reading about how the Germans lost some men in a mine clearing accident, that she got them to do I think, and when told of the fatalities by the commander her immediate response was essentially, "Yes? And?"
lol boo fucking hoo Heinrich, now excuse me whilst I return to my gardening... Seriously, I feel like there's a great movie script there
Once in a while during a bad weather weekend. It is the best there is. Binge watching !
