At least the item was soft.

A person my HS Chinese teacher introduced my mom to told the story in which they knew someone who died because something big and heavy fell off a truck and went through their windshield.

I was referring to them both (and the bike) nearly getting pulled under the trailer of that 18-wheeler.... we're talking flattened like a pancake!

😵

I actually had a big piece of plastic sheeting fly off the back of a flat-bed and wrap itself completely around the windshield of my pickup on I-95 one time resulting in a multi-car accident.

I NEARLY avoided it by leaning out the drivers-window but couldn't quite sneak by the dope who decided to stop in the left lane!

So you tried to do the Ace Ventura method of driving.

I didn't secure the front hood once and it swung up thanks to the wind. I was able to get to a shoulder but if I had gone a 1/4 mile longer, there wouldn't have been a shoulder. Had to get a replacement windshield.

this is why you don't drive/ride/whatever behind or near any kind of vehicle on the road with "shit on it." anyone hauling anything, flappy tarp, a trailer, carrying a boat or cars...whatever. I always just get the fuck away.

You have no idea what kind of drunken sociopath has failed to secure shit in their vehicle. I assume they are all incompetent, and just steer my vehicle clean away as soon as I notice that anywhere around me. whatever it takes.

Had a big fucking piece of commercial shelving (think grocery store) fly off the back end of a pickup on the highway in front of me one time, was lucky it was low traffic and I was able to swerve or it would have been a bad day.
