At one point Tiger-snakes were believed to carry the most toxic venom of any land-dwelling snake.

Not doubting that it's a scary predicament, just wondering how on earth someone could end up with one stuck up their trouser leg. Do snakes have a proclivity to clamber up there?

Note the lack of rocks/coverage. Being the only shadow in a desert tends to make you a target for wildlife. Not unusual to get chased by stuff trying to stay in your shadow. An open pant leg is basically an abandoned home.

US soldiers stationed in the middle east would often disturb "Camel-Spiders" (Solifugae's) while walking around in the desert/scrub.

If it was a sunny day (and most are in the desert) the critter would then spot the GI's shadow and run like the dickens right at him/her giving rise to the false idea that these guys actually attacked people.

They may be ugly and scary but unlike actual spiders they have zero venom plus they will not stand up well to being stepped on at all.

<CRUNCH!>

;)

It was fun telling the new guys that everything they heard about them was true, also that they were boot resistant but not bulletproof. Lots of unauthorized fire.
