Crumbs, put off replacing my fence to this year 🙁.Not sure if thats a joke or not - but I will tell you this - apparently lumber prices are SKY HIGH right now.
Just got my fences replaced at my house with cedar and it was a boatload.
It's going to be painful. Year and a half ago 1/2" OSB was $12 a sheet, it's $37 now. Studs were around $2.75, just paid $7.79.Crumbs, put off replacing my fence to this year 🙁.
Haven't gotten quotes yet.
I priced tiny houses yesterday. They cost more than my plain old house. It's going to be painful. Year and a half ago 1/2" OSB was $12 a sheet, it's $37 now. Studs were around $2.75, just paid $7.79.
We're currently at ~80% of a house extension that started as an albeit low quote of $50k, turned into $100k, which is now hovering in the $130k range. I'm guessing the increase 50/50 split between labor and materials though, as it's got a lot of peculiarities with the property. Having said that, I talked to the project manager and asked him about increasing building costs, he basically said every time he talks to his suppliers, they say 'it's going to be more expensive for the next order'. Sucks when you haven't gotten a raise since 2019 thanks to COVID. At least there's stimmy checks I guess.Yeah the price of lumber right now is pretty insane. It's not just lumber though for example last year I was safe adding 15-20% to the cost of material I bring in from out of state to cover the OTR freight costs. Now though freight costs are INSANE and I have to add anywhere from 25-30% to the cost to cover the freight.
I was talking to a sales rep the other day and one of his customers was quoted a $7000 freight charge to bring material in from Oregon. It's just crazy out there right now and of course the retailer can't afford to eat that cost so it gets passed on to the consumer. Couple that with the delay in manufacturing from overseas and it just sucks.
Hell I've got 6 skids of pottery just sitting in LA and Chicago and I was told the other 7 skids I have ordered won't arrive until June 7 at the earliest...... and that's just pottery I've got $8000 worth of lawn ornaments I'm waiting on and I've been told "No idea" on the eta for the order.
I thought 2020 was going to be one my worst years ever but it turns out 2021 isn't looking to great either not because the demand isn't there on the consumer side but because on the wholesale/distributor side it's a fucking mess right now.
