It is his personal ranch, and the only interaction he has with them is bare clothed and helping to feed them; I'm not sure entirely what this entails - a lot of the food should be the plants but perhaps right now due to young vegetation growth that requires some supplementation directly in or near the colonies. Sounds like this may have just happened this year so there is the idea that the colonies may not be self-sustaining on the local resources just yet.
He has no plans to even collect the honey, just wants to provide a stress-free bee sanctuary. I say, good on him!
