Image deleted.

You reposted it. That makes you just as guilty.

I can't believe that someone hasn't banned you for racism yet. Where's the heavy-handed hammer when you expect it? Is this guy going to get banned or am I going to get an apology?

I guess you don't play many fps?

It's not the joke, its the fact that they used a real pic of a kid at his dad's funeral.

Most memes use screen shots from movies or maybe an awkward senior pic or something. A crying 9 year old who lost a parent is pretty fucked up.

I found that image entirely unacceptable, as well.

And yet you reported neither.

Comedy has always pushed the boundaries of good taste. Who's to say what crosses that line in a society that embraces free speech? There are a lot of mainstream comedians that say stuff most of us would find offensive.

That said, use a little common sense when posting. The 360 quickscope was pretty fucked up. The thinly veiled racism some of us seem to adore of getting a little out of hand too.

But stop calling for bans just because something goes beyond your personal line. Nothing insults minorities more than screaming racism at every trivial little thing. If we do it so often enough people will eventually stop listening.

EDIT: I'm sure you've all read this post from another race thread:

"Racism in any form is proscribed. We simply cannot allow it here in any category.

Allowing a thread with racist comments in it to survive represents an existential threat to the entire Anandtech community. This isn't about a free speech thing either, this is about hate speech. There are classifications that websites achieve based on the content they host. Reach a certain threshold and boom, you find yourself in the same category as Stormfront and then you aren't the place to go for tech discussion, but the place to go for racist tech discussion. It's a slow but sure death of a community.

-JP "

I suggest we clean up our act here in this thread and stop with the racist posts before they decide to clean it up for us. And by clean it up, I think publicly debating or calling out every post you feel crosses the line is bad too. If you have a problem, report the post and then let it die, rather than pointing it out and continuing the discussion and bring more attention to it. Let a mod handle it. They've got a very clear policy on this stuff.

Kids.

Dead kids. Suffering kids. That is over the line.

If it's not over the line for you, then there is something wrong with you.

Nah, I've been called racist in another thread by someone who had a personal agenda to slander me. This racist accusation is entirely false, of course, but they used some bullshit moderation from this thread to back their libelous character assassination and I won't stand for it. I won't stand for being called a racist and I have no problems making a public attempt to clear my good name, considering that other people have no problem making a public attempt to slander me using lies.

So you're going to use this post to yet, complain about a post you were infracted for last year, to call out the mods?

The most offensive part of that is that a 360 is a complete circle. I mean, I guess someone could jump up, do a full spin and quickscope an enemy, but that seems pretty unlikely. It's more likely just another case of someone saying 360 when they mean 180, and that is offensively stupid.

It's over the line for me, even though I can easily differentiate between comedy and real life. Even if I chuckle at it, I know it's in very, very poor taste. And I've seen more first-hand suffering than most.

I also know that we need to accept the occasional misuse of the very freedoms those brave soldiers fought and died for. If those misuses rise to the level you think you need to do something about then go ahead, but I think reporting it to a mod would be better than giving it any additional attention.

But let's please get back to the real funny, that's what we all come here for.

Here's the thing: I have no idea who that kid is. For all I knew (still don't actually know anything other than people apparently recognize that picture), that was a screencap from a movie. Tasteless stuff like that is rarely actually mocking whatever the offended people think it is. I had no malice towards the kid; the CoD reference (or other FPS; but mostly CoD) was simple funny. Yes, the tastelessness is indeed PART of what makes it funny.

Meh. People get too upset over silly shit (no, not 'silly shit' as in 'dead dad,' 'silly shit' as in 'internet macros'). Did anyone ever post that one gem, which was a screencap of a news article about some girl doing doing the horrible prom-night-dumpster-baby thing, and the first comment on the page is 'spawn kill?' Yeah, I laughed like hell at that one, too. It doesn't mean I actually approve of murdering babies. Inappropriate references make the world go 'around.

Then go post at SomethingAwful.
