I recently saw one of these Camaros on the road and realized just how poorly they've aged in terms of design. I remember they looked futuristic at the timed they were released, but they look absolutely terrible today.

On the bright side the cars have aged much better than the drivers. People who drove those cars look REALLY bad now, usually it's a combination of a wife-beater, jean shorts, bald on top and a permed mullet in the rear.

The F body cars (Camaro and Firebird) were both terrible after the 3rd gen. All the money went into the engine, and nothing into the suspension, brakes, or body panels. After the late 90's they started becoming a bit better, but by then they reminded me of Chevy Luminas- smooth boring wedge cars.

On the other side of the scale was the Firebird and Trans-Am, which were Pontiac's version of the F body, and they started getting more and more obnoxious looking as the years went on. The WS6 version in the TA's final years is worth mentioning, otherwise that whole period did not age well.

They claimed a Dingo dragged their child off into the night and killed it. I think they were actually found guilty initially and later exonerated. But "A Dango ate mah babay!" was quite a common theme when I was growing up

I think the humor simply comes from the basic premise, once you boil it down and remove the "this actually happened - brutally" from the idea. Most importantly, it just came to be? Language and memes are notoriously fickle and inconsistent, and often not exactly of sound morals.

I think the humor comes from the fact that no one believed the family for years after it happened...then the actual evidence was found and everyone kinda shut up about it.
