The rings are created from the way their bodies enter the water. We saw a dolphin show recently where the tank they performed in was clear. Whenever they got air and dove into the water, it would create a vortex and/or rings. It was pretty fucking cool.

Maybe in that example they blow the ring, but the rings we saw them play with were created when they did full dives nose first. Either way, it's cool shit.
