My brother spent a few years in San Diego, CA. Our niece has been there since she was a pre-teen. Before that, she was in Daytona, FL.

One day she overheard my brother correctly saying "law-yer" and she started snickering. She demanded that my brother repeat the word. When he did, she started laughing hysterically and making a scene to the people with them. She refused to accept that his pronunciation was correct.
