If its just loading hitting the limits of your broadband so the @%# what, use another tab for a while, thats what they are for. I can't believe you sat there just watching it load...

Pointless. you can simply click "Cancel" or hit the Esc key (this is the network login, not the Windows login). It's also possible to change a setting in network properties so it no longer prompts for a login.

Many people would accidentally create a "password" simply by entering one.

In any case, even when there was a Windows user/password, you could simply boot into safe mode and delete the password list file.

i5, 8 gb of ram and the page takes forever to load at 100 posts/page. While I'm sure it can choke lower end machines/phones/netbooks loading the page still takes forever because of the hosts. The first time you posted them it took over 10 minutes to fully load the page because of all the hotlinking and the time it takes those hosts to load the images.
