o_O, you appear to have missed that the truck slowed down, then went right, and the explorer was going forwards in the opposite lane.

I saw all of that. Are you being obtuse?

Apparently, around here, proper following distance is like working out. No one wants to do it, but deep down they know they should.

If the LEO was back further, he likely could have swerved right because there would have been the reaction time to do so. It's not a difficult concept.

It almost looks like he actually speeds up to get around the truck right before it happened. I see cops all the time do this, you are barely out of their lane and they are already flying by you. Unfortunately, that didn't work out for this cop.

If everybody followed further away than that cop was, there wouldn't be enough room on the road for all the cars.

Really? REALLY? Is this the same idea as: "I can't maintain a safe following distance in heavier traffic because someone always slides in front of me and I have to slow down. If this keeps up, I'll never get to my destination!" :colbert:

A proper following distance is probably 75% of crash avoidance. So much is possible when there is time to react.

The whole reason for proper following distance is so you don't rear end the vehicle in front of you, not so you can avoid a drunk driving driving down the wrong side of the road. He left plenty of room between him and the truck, this was just a very unusual circumstance.

Goddamn, it sure seems as though you like to make blanket statements.

I keep less than a car length between my car and the one in front of me in heavy traffic so nobody can cut me off and I have never rear ended anyone. :hmm:

Must piss you off to be behind me..... i typically let one (1) car over in a merge situation, but if the guy behind me isn't letting anyone in.... i stop and let three or four go. Traffic stops because it can't merge and someone has to sit and wait for an opening, either getting on or off the freeway or simply changing lanes in somewhat congested traffic... leave space so people can move freely and traffic flows more smoothly! asshat

Cop was following too close...

No he was not. He was an idiot though for not closely observing the white suv. That should have been his hint to see wtf was going on in front and would have afforded him enough reaction time to pull right instead of left...
