Took me forever to see it. But yeah, it's just the tip of the stick snapping back. It may or may not break. But it apparently concentrated a good bit of force into the 'you fall the fuck asleep now' part of his brain.

Yeah, he broke the pin if he broke anything. But it's weird, because the gif compression makes everything below the forearm of the cue virtually invisible in the first part of the animation, so it looks like he's holding a jump cue and just swings it into the wall, then a full cue butt magically appears after the snap.

That was my issue as well. It looked like the thick end of the cue didn't exist until it was on the floor next to his limp body.

Looks like the room, not darkness, is what's being beaten. But even if it were, "beat the black out of you" is a common expression.
