The problem comes from it sounding almost the same in some dialects and them confusing the two from before they ever learned to read/write, so it is almost exclusive to native English speakers.

If you're saying "then" sounds better than "than," in that statement, there's no fucking hope for you.

In every case, the only word that "sounds better" is the correct word. It's not hard to tell which one to use. It really is an effective idiot test.

Or, maybe, you could just think twice the next time you write "then" and consider if it should be "than." Then you might avoid looking like an idiot and defending the incorrect use.

Actually, either is correct. The two statements just have two COMPLETELY different meanings.
