Jesus christ how long until I get used to putting contacts in?!

First time at the doc's office was over 20 mins. Last night luckily was only 5-10. I was expecting the same tonight but it took 30 mins. I have fairly small eyes, eyelashes that go all over, and a strong blink reflex. What the hell am I supposed to do? This is insane. Oh and my contacts are noticeably weaker than my glasses, but the doc claims I see 20/20 with the contacts in. Fantastic. :|

Just keep trying, you can do it.

I've been in that situation, first little while it took me a long time to get them in.

There are lots of ways to get them in; you need to find the way that is best for you.

Back when I wore some for fun, long story, I had a really hard time getting them in at first.

I figured the easiest way to get them in was too look at the mirror from the side of my face, put the contact in my eye then close the eye look forward and open my eye, was much easier because you are looking sideways into the mirror with your face turned. You are putting the contact onto the white part of your eye and you don?t have as strong blink reaction because you can't see the contact going in other than in the reflection in the mirror.

Make sense?

i put them into the bottom of my eye then slide them up. that way I blink less and have more room to work with

I couldn't handle contacts when I first tried them. It was horrible, I just can't handle touching my eyes. Long story short I still wear glasses.

basically, it sucks until you get used to it

I'm wearing night and day contact which last a month anyway, so I don't take them out enough to care.

It will take a little work. I had times where I was wasting so much time that I had to just quit and wear my glasses. After you get the hang of it though, no more than 5 seconds per eye.

Yeah definitely, I'll attempt that tomorrow.

I picked up a small mirror with an LED border, with one sided having a magnification factor. It helped a lot.

You'll get used to it.

I have worn them for over 20 years and I always recomend new users doing this because it works.

Get a small makeup mirror that you can prob on the table, then put a moist contact on your moist finger (do not put at the very tip) (no solution in it though, just cleaned), and get as close as possible to the mirror without knocking it over. Use the method they taught you to pull open your eyelid and put the contact in while watching it very slowly, because you are close up you can get it in just right, and if you do, blinking will not knock it out.

Good Luck. 🙂

Not a good way to do it, it is the perfect way to scratch the sides of your eye.

i never had a problem, but i still wear glasses becaues i'm too lazy to put them in all the time... plus i hate the dryness.

It took me a while to figure out how. In the docs office it took me an hour the first time. They had me holding both my upper and lower lids open. Another doc walked by and told me to pull down on JUST my lower lid (put your finger about 1/2 inch blow the eyelid) and try that. Five seconds later I had it.

I ended up going back to glasses after a year because of problems focusing while reading. Oh well.

Alright I'll try your way then. 🙂 Thanks everyone!

One other question...what are these eyedrops especially for contacts? Can't I just use normal eye drops? How are they different?

It takes some people longer than others. It took me about a week before I could put lenses in my eyes in less than 2 minutes. After wearing contacts for 4 years, I can now do it all in about 30 seconds or less.

Thats the way I still use to put them in even now (after 1 yr) whenver I wear contacts. I can put them in my left eye in under 10 seconds, but for some reason, right eye takes ~2-3 minutes (multiple tries). I can take them out of both eyes in under 5 sec each though. It is just the right eye but the method wizzard described works for me.

Just use everyday re-wetting drops for contacts. Those who use Visine type drops with contacts are asking for dried eyes and after a while less blood flow to the eyes due to the Visine solution being caught behind the contact constricting the blood vessels. So yes, you do need special contact lenses drops.

took about a week.

now i can do it one handed.

they center themselves and i take advantage of it. one girl asked me why i was rolling my head around

I know you're retired so you'd probably have time, but for me I'm not going to drive 352 miles each way for such an activity.
