Jesse Ventura - Waterboarding is torture

HomerJS

Lifer
Liz Cheney was on MSNBC yesterday defending Dick about advanced interrogation techniques. The GOP talking point is waterboarding is not torture because we performed it on our military for training and we would never torture our own people.

Here is a different perspective from someone who actually participated in the program.

Well, we now know that Pelosi and the Dems were well aware all along that waterboarding was being used. Call it what you want, it's use was not a secret to Congress.

that was off topic and clearly a diversion.

Waterboarding when in training allows you to know that you will have an out.

Waterboarding under interrogation does not allow you to know when you will be released.
It is the lack of confidence of being released on request that prompts the fear/allegations of torture.

I'm done with this torture bs

policy should say we won't do it

with some scumbag in a dark prison somewhere - with no asshat pfc's with their cellphone camera's - that's another story

That's great logic there. We prepare Navy SEALs for the possibility of being tortured by subjecting them to techniques that may be used to torture them. And because we do that, those techniques are not torture?

To be clear, our military does not torture its members (not as a policy at least). Waterboarding and other torture techniques are not torture if you voluntarily participate. They become torture when they are used against your will.

Actually no, that's not clear at all, as per Darth Cheney himself. When asked specifically this week whether Pelosi was in attendance in meetings that waterboarding specifically was discussed, Cheney could not confirm she was there vs a more generalized EIT discussion. Its not clear at all who knew what when. Cheney seems fairly uncertain whether Bush even knew.

Besides, what does that matter? Does it make it right then?

So if Pelosi is involved, let's open a big investigation and get all the facts out there and figure out what the fuck was going on.

VENTURA: That's right. I was water boarded, so I know -- at SERE School, Survival Escape Resistance Evasion. It was a required school you had to go to prior to going into the combat zone, which in my era was Vietnam. All of us had to go there. We were all, in essence -- every one of us was water boarded. It is torture.
KING: What was it like?
VENTURA: It's drowning. It gives you the complete sensation that you are drowning. It is no good, because you -- I'll put it to you this way, you give me a water board, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I'll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders.
KING: Even though you know it's not going to happen -- even though before it, you know you're not going to drown.

VENTURA: You don't know it. If it's -- if it's done wrong, you certainly could drown. You could swallow your tongue. You could do a whole bunch of stuff. If it's it done wrong or -- it's torture, Larry. It's torture.

Dick Cheney slimed America and ruined any claim we had of virtue in the world. It is understandable that a worthless swine of his caliber would seek to deny what he is. Fortunately, real people of character and moral standing aren't fooled.

Waterboard all republicans and this issue will go away

While the great majority of moral cowards seem to be Republicans since the party make active appeals to them to protect them from their fear of unknowns, it is not confined to Republicans, I don't think. All kinds of people are filled with a dread of the other and would do sink to the lowest levels of being shit if they can only feel safe.

1. No, we don't. All we have, so far, is accusations and counter stories about the details of who knew what and when. That's why we need to know all of the truth. Members of Congress of either party who knew about acts of torture and were in any position to stop it should be held accountable at whatever level is appropriate. That should be determined by an independent prosecutor.

NOTHING done by anyone else changes the fact that those at the top who instituted and authorized the torture program should be tried and convicted for their crimes.

Jesse also thinks the buildings on 9/11 were taken down with explosives. Maybe he is right on BOTH issues?! :Q

Well considering we started a war and soliders were killed over WMD, I'll give Jesse a pass.

It is clear and that's why there likely will not be any hearings on the matter. Congress was well aware that this sort of torture was being used. They only became outraged about it when it was convenient.

Pelosi stated that she was not told at any briefing, which is technically true. However she was informed by her aide, who did attend the briefing, that waterboarding was being used. Pelosi was using Clintonese to deny knowledge, imo.

Personally this is a dead issue to me. All politicians are scumbags and their job is to point fingers and play with words. We tortured people. That is a fact. At the time the trend was to pretend it wasn't torture. Today, most acknowledge that it was bullshit and we were most definitely torturing people with very little gain. There will be no reprecussions on the former administration or on people still in office who knew about it. The fact is aside from their special interest groups the people politicians look out for most is themselves and their kin. I knew the demo big wigs wouldn't allow Obama after the Bush admin because they knew that high ranking Dems were involved as well. It is just fact.

More on-topic, it is good to hear from the Body again. He is a true Statesman.

rofl!

The thing is, it's literally true, not a joke, except he wouldn't need an hour. Waterboarding will get 'compliance' of some sort.

It's how we got people to 'admit' an Al-Queda-Iraq connection that was false - torture causing false confessions being a lesson learned in the middle ages.

Dude you are def wrong. I can say with 100% certainty that those crazy bitches were witches.

Edit:

Mid posting I decided it would be really fun to go through the torture documents and replace every reference to Al-Qaeda and Terrorism with Witches, Withcrafts, and Covens. Fuck, I bet I could get that published.
