Thank God! It is a Mercedes clone and at least one journalist can recognize this. This is said after JC's problems with his SL55.

Let me translate the article for you:

"This car is superior to its competitors in every way, but it's not European, so I don't like it."

He tries to be amusing but he ends up being irritating, especially on Top Gear.

Personally i enjoyed the little tale of the exchange student over the car review, pretty humorous

He never said it was a bad car. He just said it wasn't for him.

In fact he praised the car for what it was, a luxury car.

Let's face it, JC will always have a different opinion on anything mechanical. In fact, he wrote an entire book in mechanical devices that have soul! It wasn't only for cars either, things such as the AK-47, the Hoover Dam, the US aircraft carriers, etc.. were talked about as well.

Good point, it is excellent at what Toyota wanted, a luxury car.

Also, when he mentioned the car having a soul, I think that depends on what the car is used for. When we take our Lexus out, it's a nice quiet relaxed ride and everything always works, we don't really look for a soul in a car like this, maybe that's what keeps it a simple car relatively speaking?

He?s a performance enthusiast, so if it doesn?t feel sporty he won?t like it. At least he said it was good for what it does.

It's not like he hate all Japanese cars.

I read like 30 of his magazine articles today. He's truly an excellent writer. I often read Car and Driver, and Motortrend and think, geez, I could write this kind of stuff easily. But Clarkson is truly a talented writer. His stories, his diction, everything is just wonderful. I laughed out loud reading a few of his articles. The one about the Gallardo was great, he was talking about how bicyclists will react when your super car breaks down and it was like "A) Ignore you or B) Laugh at you until they need hospital treatment."

I guess you had to be there.

Unfortunately, I didn?t like it at all, partly because it?s about as attractive as a sponsored town centre roundabout and partly because Lexuses these days are driven by people who play golf, or people who like to slap their hos and drive around at night shooting at business rivals with submachineguns. Gangstas? Golfers? I don?t want to look like either.
