Until today i had no clue what jello was made of.

Gelatin is made of hydrolyzed collagen, which is a polite way of saying 'partially decomposed protein extracted from cow and pig hides, hooves, bones, and connective tissue'. The protein in these materials is broken down by treatment with an alkaline solution and then extracted with hot water.

Yea...

Well now you don't think we'd want to just let all that perfectly good connective tissue protein go to waste now, do you? Where would you rather see it? Proten bars?

I always thought Bill Cosby made it with his secret formula of little children.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Actually, I was going to say animal by products, or renderings.

Gelatin desert (before it was called Jello) was reserved for rich people. It was an expensive to make treat. Only when the dude who invented a process to make it instantly did it become popular among the "working class".

IIRC it was originally marketed as a medicine/cure all/health enhancer. People that ate it back then swore it "filled them with vigor".

I never realized how much stuff had gelatin in it until I hung out with a vegan girl for a while.

Marshmallows, chewy candy, etc, it's in a ton of stuff.

Hot dogs are pretty bad, sausage doesn't have to be. I buy my sausage from a local butcher and they make it themselves, so there's a minimal amount of animal wang/lips/whatever in it.

Edit: Whoops, apparently no gelatin in Swedish fish. She must not have ate them for another reason.

What engine do they use to render it?

If you think about it, everything we eat is disgusting. As long as it tastes good and won't kill you...I'll eat it.
