I got a job at a machine shop. I assemble infrared dryers. I mkae a whole lot more than last summer, too, and the people there are cooler.

um...you're obviously not as intelligent as you claim. President Bush has taken it upon himself to "stimulate" our economy by cutting taxes....

Why would they hire teenager. If they can hire Mexicans who will work happily at such places as fast food business and will not complain about the wages u can even pay them lower then minimum wage and under the table and they will work even harder if u paid them with check as they can be on welfare and work

as pathetically as it is. They've been around for quite awhile and their presence has done a lot to keep your company executives happy. That means they pay
the mexicans little to nothing for HARD labor...while you (since we're addressing RACE) whitey's sit around doing little to nothing labor wise...and getting
the money the mexicans aren't. And then you complain that some of your tax dollars go to their welfare. haha ....bush sucks. nuff said.

Did you call them back? Anytime I apply for a job I only apply to 1 place. You need to call them back after a few days and "inquire about the status of your application." That honestly tells the future employer something about yourself, that you're actually interested in the job. If you just blanket the area with applications you're just one more notch on the list of applicants, you need to make yourself memorable.
I forgot to mention, I also applied to about 15 different places and didn't hear ANYTHING from anyone. This includes a data entry job for urine samples...I thought for sure no one would want that job.
And I'm pretty qualified too. It's just hard to get a job in some areas.

1 when you turn in a app/resume make sure you find out who does the HR.
2 Call THAT person back 2-3 days after you sudmit it.
3 2 days later call the department manger/store manger and tell them you REALLY want to work there and what you need to do if there is a open position
If you have a good car and are 21 or older haul some pizzas. Get feee food, sometimes, and maybe make some good money, depends of tips

You need to try to use your talents; find something that uses your musical ability.
Are you old enough to play the piano in a nice lounge (if you don't handle drinks do you have to be 21?)? Even for tips you'd get pretty good money. Get 'fake' books from the decades 40's - 80's so you can take requests.

The person driving it, the delivery boy. I am curious about the 21, thing though. Haven't heard that.
Actually, that's what my current job is, but it just doesn't bring in enough money around here. I live in a far west suburb of Chicago, and there aren't a whole lot of gigs. I'm still doing lots of theatre gigs actually, (conducting, rehearsal pianist, pit orchestras, arranging scores for choreographers, recording, etc). But it's a TON of work for WAAAAAY below minimum wage.
I also teach piano lessons to some youngsters, but again, it only brings in so much dough (and that one doesn't really eat up a whole lot of time either, I only have 5 students).

Ok, my questions now. So, I should call 2-3 days after turning in an application? Who do I call, the store itself? I'll probably be talking to another teenager, lol, who won't have any clue about my application status nor have any bearing on it. I know I should call, but I don't know who to call or what to say.
EDIT: Oh yeah, for the fast food suggestions-I mean no racism or ethnic slur here, but they won't hire me because my Spanish sucks. Seriously, my town is now 60% Mexican immigrant (no joke), and every single employee at fast food restaurants barely speaks english.
