Jeez I hate riced up cars

Right here

Nothing TOO special, but it's performance is pretty damn nice considering I'm only paying $5500.
Runs the 1/4 in 14.8 (even though it says 15 in the thread I think) and 0-60 in 7 secs.

What factory cars are "riced up" by your definition?
 • Corolla S ? The Sportiest Corolla With a little more flair here and there, this unique, sporty model has a great new look. For a complete list of model highlights and available equipment, go to the Specifications page.
I saw that thing on TV with it's cutsie spoiler, but Toyota is even too embarrassed to put a picture of it on their site!

Hey, it isn't only the Japanese, check out this Caravan Sport. Yep, a mini van Sport complete with spoiler! 😛

Hey, it's done at the factory, so it must be considered tasteful and in no way "riced up".

Back to the Japanese. I just configured a Honda Accord with a Rear Wing Spoiler installed for 569.00 and 15" Machine Finish 5 Spoke Alloy Wheels installed for 960.00. Now explain why these wheels have 4 lugs, but 5 spokes! Hey, it's all factory equipment, so it can't be considered "Riced"! 😛

NFS had an explanation on the Caravan spoilers, they do serve some functionality. Hopefulle he's got some input here.

As for the accord, the spoiler is a small one, nothing wrong there. And 15 inch rims? That's nothing. As for the 4 lug/5 spokes, the rims just look better that way. You don't see too many 4 spoke rims, and the ones that are normally don't look good.

Ornery - when you can configure a car with a performance muffler, 18 inch rims, and a cruddy looking body kit, then you can call it factory rice! The things you mention here are just dress up items, what's so bad about that??

I already heard the speil about the mini van "spoiler" keeping dirt or snow off the rear window and a place to put a window squirter. Trouble is, they've been mounted on family wagons for decades and called air foils, not spoilers!

Bottom line is, one man's "dress up item" is another man's rice up. The question is, where do you draw the line? I say as soon as it ain't functional, it's riced. That goes for all makes and models, so call it by whatever name you want. Fake or faux might be about right. What do you think of wheel covers that look like mags? Hey, "the rims just look better that way."

We're not talking about average cars, are we? Cuz the average American car certainly isn't a muscled up Firebird or Mustang. We're talking about the "best of the best" that each has to offer. The average American car is what, a Geo Metro or some crap like that.

Ornery, you're more of a muscle car type of guy. Just out of curiousity, what do you think of the 3 foot wing on the '69 Charger Daytona? Adds no functionality whatsoever, and it doesn't even look good. They're nice cars, but that wing is repulsive....

I doubt that is the average American car, considering that the number of people who drive cars and minivans far outnumber the amount of people driving trucks, not to mention the $$ factor.

For pure beauty, few cars can beat this one.

However, with all this talk of functionality, I find it amusing to note that most cars in this thread don't even match the low drag coefficient of my next car (not the car above 😛). And yes, it does have a spoiler. 🙂

P.S. This other car has the lowest Cd EVER in a production car. Nope, it ain't even a "real" sports car.

Oh damn, SmackdownHotel is right about that. The average American vehicle is probably the stinken mini van! I blame the average American consumer :|

But the top selling vehicle in the US for quite a few years running was the F-150. You can get one for about $20,000 with a few nice options. It's got good resale value, easy to fix, safe and sound. Well, in the winter they suck, but you can't have everything.

Stack up all the desirable vehicles you can get from Europe, Japan and USA at the $20,000 price point and see what floats to the top. $20K ain't much to work with, but should be enough to slap something usable together. The F-150 ain't bad...

The '69 Charger Daytona was designed as close as possible to be like the one raced at Daytona. I don't think it would take too many mods to get it up to that caliber, though it would be expensive. That wing was part and parcel of the real deal. Notice that a "functional" wing is mounted high and/or huge when the speed gets up there.

Hey, if you bought a 911 Turbo, you wouldn't likely be driving at sustained top speed either, though the functional wing and ground effects would still be there serving no useful purpose at normal traffic speed.

Actually the Turbo's spoiler stays up constantly...it's the spoiler of the 911 carrera that raises above 60 or 70mph, and goes down again if you sink below 30mph or something like that.

If I had a choice of any car in the world it'd be a Ferrari 550 Maranello, whee🙂 Of course that won't be happening for a very, very, very long time...but it'd sure be worth it.

I'll take V8 bad boys anyday over "refinement". Pshh. 500 horses under the hood. 140 dbs blowing out my ear drums in the trunk. Thats what I like in a car.

<< What I hate more is those latinos thinking they're all hard and dung because they got their jacked up cars, that can't even move, they just jump in place. >>

wth does "hard and dung" mean? Funny how you singled out latinos. I see as many whites and blacks doing that to their cars as I do latinos. You have to be the most worthless punkass I have ever seen on a message board.

yeah - another funny thing is how he says that they go nowhere...I've never seen a car with hydros that didn't have a stock engine. I'd say 99% of the cars with hydros have stock engines (the ones you adore so dearly).

Eug,
Did you consider any of the diesel VW's ( Golf, New Beetle, Jetta) before you decided on the Prius? They seem to be a good alternative if you dont mind shifting. I believe the Jetta is rated 43 city and 49 highway mpg with the 5 speed and many people back up those figures with some even reporting higher mpgs. A qoute from tdiclub.com

One driver with a 96 Passat TDI has recorded a lifetime average 52.08 (US) mpg (62.5 Imp mpg) (4.52l /100km) and his best consumption rate was 63.98 miles per US gallon on a tank that took him 845 miles. That works out to 76.5 Imp mpg or 3.7l/100k on a tank that took him abou 1350km!
