I suggest you read all of it when you can find the time, then, as it appears the answer you seek is not a simple a + b + c = d

Actually, one of the pages linked off of that tells me what I need in a + b + c = d format. ;)

Lee borrowed facets of wing chun, western boxing, fencing, muay thai, Filipino Martial Arts, and even wrestling in order to come up with a fighting style that allowed relaxed movement and effective blows.

well saying he borrowed facets from those other martial arts doesn't necessiarly mean JKD is a combination of those.. i mean if i learned, say karate, and i punch you, does that mean i used karate to beat you up? no... i think JKD is more of a philosophy.. there's no set form.. the whole philosophy is just about fighting in the most effective and efficient manner... hit them before they can hit you

Wing Chun was the gong fu style he was formally trained in under his sifu Yip Man I believe.

I'm sure you can google all kinds of indepth info on JKD if you try, but off the top of my head I know Bruce borrowed concepts and technique from a variety of other gong fu styles, judo, karate, la savate, and wrestling. He was also quite impressed with European fencing as I recall.



I like JKD, very practical looking stuff, although I've never had any formal instruction in it.
