Jeeps any good?

My wife and I rented a Jeep Compass for our vacation car and she really likes it. Her lease is up next year and this seems like it would be a nice option. Are new Jeeps quality cars? I have no previous ownership experience with them.

or the commander? i drove it in denver on a vacation and hated it. they gave me the neutered v-6 version. the vehicle was too big for that engine. no pick up and the brakes sucked too.

i'm going to stick with a wrangler for my next vehicle. but that's my personal preference.

I've heard that Wranglers are not good at all for normal road driving, as the suspension is tuned for off-road use and the tires transmit a lot of vibration and noise to the passenger cabin...never driven one myself though so I don't have first hand experience.

To the OP, Jeep does not make a "champion," but if you really want an SUV there are probably better choices than a Jeep in terms of refinement and reliability...i.e. Toyota 4Runner or the Sequoia if you really need a large one.

IMO the older Wranglers are awful vehicles for daily commuting. Fun on the weekends, but not the daily grind. Long highway trips were especially exhausting with the [noisy] soft top, no cruise control, and [noisy/vibrating best-for-off-road] tires.

That said, I hear the latest ones have a much improved suspension for normal road driving.

Yes, I meant Compass. Sorry about that, had auto-correct turned on in my phone 😱

I also drove a rental Commander recently. Chrysler interiors are bad . . . Also, I only got 10.9 MPG in the city, and that was with conservative fuel-saving driving!
