Yeah, I'd use it as a daily driver for now.

You guys are making me uneasy about this decision now

Have you driven one?

They arent for everyone, but they are fun, a friend has one, he loves it. They are uhhhhhh.......interesting to drive, the short wheelbase, relatively narrow width and tight suspension can make for some interesting situations in traffic. It takes a while to get used to the ride and drive, but I like them.

The newer ones are worlds ahead of the older ones, but still present some quirks as a daily driver.

Anywhere from '95 - '98

There is no 96, but a 95 is a YJ and 97+ is a TJ. TJs are MUCH more refined. I highly suggest that instead of a YJ.

I have to slow down to take turns, but a friend of mine autocrosses his lifted TJ with 33" tires. Mine is very tippy. If I gun it, my left front tire will lift off the ground because the suspension is so soft.

Nothign wrong with that if that is the message you are trying to send out.

If you are so insecure with your manhood I'd suggest taking testosterone shots or something. Maybe you will grow some hair on your chest one day 😉

What does that have to do with insecurity? I knwo plenty of Gay folks who are very secure with themselves.

Insecure to the point that you are concerned with what sexuality your vehicle may or may not portray you as.

Taking off the hard top is a bitch, you'll probably need a few friends- or some pulley system. Soft top? no problem.
note: if you don't buy half doors, you'll look silly too with the top down, unless you have door runners along the edges.

system sound is pretty miserable, tough to add an amp as well. i have the sound bar in my sahara, it doesn't help that much. It's not just the header either, the door speakers themselves aren't very powerful. Course, the sound bar could do well with some extra juice flowing through them, but upgrading the stereo in a jeep? bad idea. think soft top, knives, and new york city.

valuables - glove and the compartment between the seats is a bad idea. best idea is trunk, between the door and the metal supporting the back seats, there's a small area. don't plan on stashing anything big there, your tennis racquet wont even fit. get an extra storage thing and pop the back seats out if you really need it.

learning stick on a wrangler- it's not very forgiving. those screeching grinding noises are going to make the chicks in the convertible over, who had snuck a peek at the hottie in the jeep, start laughing their asses off.

gas mileage- rated 15 i think, i get around 16. spark plugs, air in those tires, do whatever you can. stil have to fill up at least once a week, sometimes twice.

but in the end, my wrangler is my baby. and anyone who owns one will tell you the same.

I used to have a video of it. He was topless and doorless with the tires screaming away 😛

And it didn't roll!?

Naw, the only time I have seen rollovers is offroad or when the trailer it was being towed on hit some ice and away she went.

Do you have to take turns slowly to avoid one side lifting up?

My 95 YJ (4.5" life and 33" mudders) handled great. It wasn't a sports car, but I definately didn't have to slow down. 12.5" wide tires give quite a contact patch and I had a very stiff suspension (hurt it off-road, but worked great on).

They are fun as hell to drive if you live somewhere you can take it offroad.I bought one a few years ago from a co-worker for a few hundred $.It had an engine fire and he didnt want to deal with it so I fixed it up and drove for a a year and sold it with a big profit 🙂

I've been interested in Wanglers now for a little while. I'd also like to hear some input from owners.

But learning to drive a stick on a Wrangler wouldn't be any harder than on any other vehical. It's really not that bad (I learned on a 1982 BMW, now I drive a 95 Mitsu Mighty Max stick) and it's going to be different on every car that you drive.

And I hear about 20mpg mixed driving for the 4 bangers, and 15-18 for the 6s. I'd really like to get a 6 and start doing some off roading and whatnot, but the gas is outragous now 🙁

How much ooomf does the 2.5 liter 4 have? Would you be screwed offroad with it?

I would'nt look at one with the 4-banger, in fact most of them come with the 4.0L I-6... Regarded by many as a very hearty motor, some going well over 200k miles.

I rented one once. It was fun for about the first hour but by the end of the day I wanted to set it on fire. Bouncy as fvck, horrible gas mileage, no room for any luggage or passengers and god forbid you take off the soft top because it is damned near impossible to put back on.

I don't want this to sound personal, but my 2 year old nephew can figure out my YJ top and that's 11,000,000,000 times harder than a TJ top. If you had trouble with that, really I don't trust you with so much as manual window roll-down.
All other things, the Wrangler is not a car, it's a Jeep. It won't drive smooth, but it'll be a riot to drive. Prepare to learn a lot about mechanics of a simple engine because all things on a Wrangler are easy to break and easy to fix. I love mine, but I also knew what I was buying.
