As do TJ Rubicons. For the money, Jeep is the best bet. Paying upwards of 5 times the price of a Wrangler for an H1 is silly. You could buy a late 80's HMMWV for around $20,000 but they are still overpriced for what you get.

No H1/HMMWV or H2 can make it through the trails that Jeeps go through. They are just too wide. These kinds of trails are inaccessible to anything wider than a Jeep.

Purely for offroading ability, a Jeep YJ/TJ - not the Cherokee. For slightly degraded offroad capability plus the option of mounting a .50 cal machine gun to the roof, the HMMWV. :D

from that angle, it looks like it did it's job. Notice that the passenger door is still intact. That leads me to believe that the passenger compartment stayed together fairly well. Not to mention the fact that the other vehicle was a 1-ton truck

H2 sucks. with the 67% tax deduction or whatever, I see them a dime a dozen around my area. overplayed and ugly. Get the real thing, the H1. I consider the H2 like the Land Rover Discovery is to the Range Rover HSE.

I voted for the Hummer, but that was before I read your post and saw you were talking about the H2. I have no experience with those, but I have logged thousands of miles on and off road in a military HMMWV. They're great for their intended purpose, they are very reliable and very difficult to actually get stuck and they have stump pulling power. However, there's no way in hell I'd own one as a personally owned vehicle, even if it was extremely cheap. They're loud, uncomfortable, and a pain in the ass to get in and out of.

I've seen plenty of H2's parked outside sub 200k homes. It screams

"I was gonna get the Tahoe, but springed for another 10k to look cool to my neighbors and peers. People will think I'm succesful."

POS. I sat in one the other day. crap. Another crap suv/muv but IS expensive is that Mercedes G500 or whatever Gudenmeistershnitzerstein.

edit: best high end suvs:
prestige: Range Rover HSE (its good enuff for the queen of england...)
Luxury/Comfort: Lexus LX470. DAMN nice...
