Jeep vs. Hummer, who wins?

I was reading this article and having just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee (which I do intend to take off road from time to time) was wondering which you would feel more confident in going offroad with?

Now, I can say that I have driven a military issue HMMWV as a Military Policeman in some very, very tough conditions, but commercially, I think I'd take a Jeep over a Hummer 2 any day of the week and twice on weekends. I have also driven a Jeep Cherokee as a patrol vehicle in some pretty rugged terrain too and the Jeep felt more "natural" and manageable offroad than the hulking HMMWV did. Anyone else with personal experience on both?

any Jeep will beat a shatty H2 off road. an H1 however, despite it's size, can get around pretty good.. only in smaller places, will the Jeep be better than the H1.. but the H2 is a pile... it's useless.

lol, jeep definitely pwnz the H2. I was at the doctor a few weeks ago and he had a H2 sitting in the parking lot, I saw some kid run up to it and say "holy crap this is a pimped out hummer like all the rap guys have!", it was hard not to laugh.

The H2 is NOTHING like the military hummer. Appearances are definitely decieving.

The H2 is pretty ridiculous. But the Humvee, the military version of the Hummer is better than the Jeep.

I'll take a Hummer in my Jeep in off-road conditions any day of the week too, but that's not what we're talking about here now is it? ;):D

Hummer > Jeep > Shitbox aka H2.

EDIT: Also, change your poll. The H2 has no right being called a Hummer. You should have it specifically say H2, or Hummer (meaning H1).

Which Hummer? Real one or H2? You say both in your post. I'm no off roader, but wouldn't it depend on the circumstances? You don't see H1s driving up mountain trails, but they would be better for fording rivers like those guys in Alaska were doing.. but as far as I know, you can't lift an H1.

I think the poll implies H2, which by all intensive purposes is not a Hummer.

30" of water operation maybe for the commerical version, but we took our milspec ones in water that came half way up the windshield. We were told in training that as long as the exhaust stack stayed above water, it would be fine. Nothing like looking out the front windshield and seeing water take up nearly the entire view!

The poll was intended to be primarily what's on the market right now commercially.

Mud/Sand/Dirt: H1
River/deep mud: HMMV (I don't think H1's cabin is waterproofed)
Cocking around on some rocks: Wrangler/Rubicon

Is the Cabin Water proof? If so, is air routed inside?

Nope, water coming in from everywhere. It was in water that deep only for about 15-20 seconds before pulling out, but in that time, water was up to the seat cushions from the door seals and floor drainage holes. I know the Marine Corps HMMWV has both and intake and exhaust stack that rise above the roof for deep water operations/beach assaults.
