Jedi Knight II - Ridiculous load times?

Just wondering if something is wrong on my end. Whenever I load a saved game or change levels in JK2, the loading is RIDICULOUS - as in minutes.

Using Windows XP Pro, P3 1Ghz, 256MB, Radeon 8500, SB Live. Maybe it's the Intel Application Accelerator drivers?

Please share your experience.

Yes I had this same exact problem. Along with slow load times it was also glitchy and would spaz out when a bunch of bad guys were there. I found out (and I have 256 RAM) that if you want to use High Quality Textures, you have to have 512 megs of RAM. Just lower the Texture Quality down to either High or I have it at medium (No HUGE quality differentce) and that should solve you load time problems ENORMOUSLY. Hope it works and helps.

MoMeanMugs -

I've played Q3A, MOHAA etc. None had load times even close to that of JK2 with the highest quality textures. The game can easily take at least a couple minutes to load.

To everyone else -

Thanks for the helpful info. Setting the graphic settings to normal and upping the res to 1024x768 cuts the loading at least in half. I'm assuming this is mostly due to using high quality instead of very high quality textures. I guess 256MB just doesn' cut it anymore 😛

Thanks,
B

Windows XP is likely slowing things down a bit for you. I didn't realize 512 MB could help so much but it does in Outcast. There were reports in reviews of 4-5 minute load times but on my system the first level loaded pretty quickly. My WD1200JB helps, too, I'm sure.

IMO 512 MB should be the standard for gaming by now anyway. 🙂

Medal of Honor has the highest requirements for a game I've seen until Jedi Knight. For the most part, JKII runs well until you get the lightsaber. I'm not sure if anyone else notice it, but if you equip the lighstaber, the game slows down significantly. While 3rd person view looks good, it runs even slower, and I have trouble hitting anything so I play in first person mode for everything. My reload times are usually 5-6 secs.....not too bad (bearable anyway)
