The problem with the GOP is that they want to collect the wealth from the common working people and redistribute it to the top few percent. The GOP ensures that the current tax system is set up to do exactly that.

What you're missing here is that the gov't, you know, the gov't that's been thoroughly corrupted into redistributing the wealth the middle class and the poor gained back in the late 40's, 50's and 60's into the hands of the rich and powerful for the last 40+ years and has now overdone it way beyond what's healthy for the nation as a whole.

How is it then that it's perfectly fine for our corrupted gov't to have been busy redistributing the nation's wealth to the wealthy for the past 40+ years but it's not OK to re-stabilize the imbalance the corruption has caused?

The nation prospered as a whole back then whereas the only folks who are prospering now is the very rich and wealthy because the gov't has been very busy redistributing wealth in their favor.

As long as you don't use, water from your city/town, electricity, any road, the internet, etc or that you didn't use public education, the services of a fire department, police department, etc... that is fine otherwise your just deceiving yourself.

The govt has been giving away free stuff for a very long time. The King of England gave Pennsylvania to William Penn, for example. The federal govt gave away the right of way & alternate sections along it to anybody who'd build a railroad. There have been numerous homestead acts- free land. Crop subsidies & conservation payments aren't just free shit, they're free money.

There's all kinds of free shit in this country, depending your circumstances, of course. Police, fire & paramedics are there whether you pay directly or not. Same for roads, schools, libraries, flood control, securities regulation & God only knows what else.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what's happening to us. When we abandoned he New Deal in favor of Reaganomics we set the stage for an enormous transfer of income & wealth to the tippy top, a reinstatement of the processes that led to the trust buster era & the crash of 1929. With offshoring, automation & financial deregulation added to that we now have an economy where capitalists are loathe to hire any more of us than absolutely necessary or to pay and better than what a depressed labor market can bear.

Your own circumstances bear that out. Look at what you've had to do to support your family vs what you did prior to the financial elite having it all their way.

What do you think the great progressive policies were but a wealth transfer by "giving away free stuff"? For example food stamps are little more than a subsidy for corporate agriculture and processed food companies.

And things are going to get much, much worse on the income inequality front before they get better as we've entered into a multi-decade long secular trend that basically ensures it.

I for one am looking forward to another campaign season of magical tax cut promises. I'm sure this time conservatives that spent the last 7 years complaining about deficits won't be fooled!

Deficits are great when you're fighting the evil empire or invading another country because of no good reason other than Terrar! Terrar! Terrar!
