Yeah me too. To have not heard the name of the Canadian Prime Minister even once is really sad, because I'm from Canada and I've heard Bush and Gore so many times I want to puke.

Valhalla1,

I hope you're joking or being sarcastic!

... Just checked your profile, nevermind. It doesn't surprise me.

"State/Province: Texas

Country: United States"

How can you be so ignorant, are all Texans/Americans that stupid? I'd really like to say no to that, as I have several American friends, one of which is really smart.

I'm from Quebec (in Canada, you probably didn't know that either). Why is it that I know about Gore, Bush, Clinton and many U.S. presidents? How can you not know Jean Chrétien? Are you that isolated down there? They don't show any international news or what? Do you know who Putin is? Do you know who Stalin is? Do you know what the Bolsheviks are? ... OK I might be getting carried away, but you should get the drift (hopefully).

And then to hear you say something like "oh, some canadian shmuck.". WTF man?

Please say you've been kidding all along... ;)

I, too, hope he is kidding :)

Gimme a state name and I may not get the capital but I can pretty well pintpoint it on a map (give or take a couple - hell there are 50 of the damn things), but Valhalla can you tell me where, say, Alberta is? Only 1/5 as many provinces as states ya know! We're your neighbor!

Well, since I'm Californian, and I didn't know who the hell she is, I guess everyone in my state is ignorant, by your standards it seems.

I don't know how to say this, but how old are you?

I mean really he is the leader of your larger neighbor (land mass wise heh) - and has been for years.

You know whats funny, my primary news sources are a local one and CNN (mostly US news), even though I live in Canada...

I'm 19. Hence pg19 ;)

The fact of the matter is, the one thing you fail to realize is that well, I have more important things to focus on, like finals, friends, and everything else I'm in to. Point being, just because I don't know who your president is doesn't make me (and everyone in my state for that matter, again, according to your standards) ignorant. And just in case you haven't noticed, we have our own little situation over here, so maybe, just maybe, the Jean Chretien thing got lost in the shuffle.

Maybe I'm just the weird one here who doesn't think that what I value important has to be important to another person.

Come on guys ease up. Many Americans don't give a squat about other countries politics (not criticizing Americans, but it?s just the way it is). Don't let that fool you though. I've read some interesting threads from Americans about Canadian Law/Politics. :)

Are all Canadians that defensive about their PM? I'd have to say no, as we have our share of morons too. :p

But seriously, I'm not trying to be all defensive of the PM, just look at this I mean come on, "who's that?"! :Q

"Well, since I'm Californian, and I didn't know who the hell she is, I guess everyone in my state is ignorant, by your standards it seems"

I'm LMAO right now!

Skoorb, I also don't get that... I mean, I live in Quebec, the Frenchest part of Canada, which wants to seperate from Canada, and wants to have just as little to do with the United States, and I know about this stuff and watch some American T.V as well.

What is living in California or ANYWHERE have to do with what you know? It has absolutely nothing to do with it! We hear about Gore and Bush, etc... What is it, your channels don't broadcast any Canadian news? What if we were to find a cure for Cancer tomorrow, would you not hear of it? :p

Uhhhhh..... 'who is this weird Clinton president chick I'm hearing of again?'

............ NOT! Ha-ha. ;)

valhalla

its not your problem - my point is that I realize there is more to the world than just where i Live.

pg19

I thought maybe the 19 was indicative of age too :p, the thing is I see far too many people who are wrapped up in their lives...I mean I guess its just how you are; either you care about certain things or you don't. I have a friend in Canada who is probabaly still unaware of who won our recent elections and he is 29. He just is absolutely totally devoid of what goes on in the rest of the world, whereas I happen to want to keep at least a little abreast of things. My curiosity levels are such that if all I cared about was my friends, job, car payments, then I would consider myself a human ant unthinking about the world around me.

pg19,

Yeah, you're right. Who cares what goes on in the rest of the world...After all you don't live there. You live in California.

<< So, can you leave California, or does the bubble never open? >>

What the hell is going on here? Why are you two being so rude because Candian news doesn't revolve around my life?

And just to prove your childish remarks wrong, I've been to Vancouver and Victoria in your home country. And just wednesday night I came back from a 4 day trip from New Haven, Connecticut for a tour of Yale University.

Don't insult my intelligence because what you find important doesn't interest me, on top of the fact that I have more pressing matter to attend to.

That my friend, would be a sign of maturity.

I don't think anyone is trying to tell you that your life should revolve around Canada. Perhaps what I would like to get across is that your life might be a little more fulfilling if you knew more about the things that surround you. Take for instance your peace and freedom that the US loves so much - then look at the fvck up between israel and argentina. I can tell you I'm sure glad that I live in Canada far away from that crazy stuff. Or Yugoslavia for instance. Current events will be history and much of history is inherently interesting.

I don't mean to sound condescending (I know I might though), I only actually gave a crap about 1.5 years ago about more than just my life in university !

Everybody else has just as much of a life as you do. What does that have to do with anything? I have hobbies, friends, school, etc just like you. Does that mean I wouldn't know who Gore, Bush, etc are because they "got lost in the shuffle"? Yeeeeeeeah...

It's not very heard to learn about these things... I am not interested in politics (at all, I hate it actually), and I don't go out of my way to find anything out about politics usually, but still I know about this? Flick on the TV one day and watch the news for half an hour...

The Canadian election just took place, you didn't hear anything about it? What, just because we didn't have all kinds of trouble with ours means something?

You can think and learn and do whatever you want, keep up with whatever you want, but when things like what Valhalla1 said are posted... That just looks extremely ignorant.

I probably should be more up to date with current events than I am, but I'm very lazy and not interested in stuff like politics.

Well whatever, I guess some people are just like that... I just don't think it's very good to be closed in that way. It doesn't give you anything more to not know about that stuff.

Anyway I'm done arguing... I still think it's ignorant.. :p

maybe you hear about american politics a lot because we are the richest most powerful country in the world. :) I mean, do you know who the president of mongolia is?

Canadian politics mean about jack squat to me. the only barely interesting thing would be the controversy of quebec wanting to become its own nation, cuz maybe then there can be a canadian civil war and just maybe you'll wipe each other off our continent. ever heard of manifest destiny?
