lots of questions on the survey, a lot of them were creature comfort type questions.

I have been twice. Back in 2000 when I leased a TL, then again in 2004 when I bought one. I'm very shocked by Acura's below average rating, as they were top notch for me.

Yep, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, if we take JD Power seriously, your average Kia will have identical quality as your average Acura. :roll:
 
Call me dumb but I didn't realize Porsche was that good. Kudos to Ford, Chevy and Caddy

Too late, you already do. It isn't really all that difficult to understand either. Which company do you think builds the more gadget laden vehicles? When you put more technology in your car more stuff can go wrong. That is one of the things that has plagued BMW. And the Kia Rio that you keep ripping on actually came in second place behind the Honda Fit in the Subcompact car category, so clearly the owners of the Rio do not agree with your assessment of the vehicle.

Well Audi wouldn't surprise me one bit. The fit/finish/quality appears extremely high on the relatively few Audi's I've had the pleasure of checking out. I've heard questionable things about their long-term viability, but (a)- that probably doesn't concern the average luxury car buyer who only wants it for 1-3 years, and (b), the JD Power study only checks initial, and then a 3-year outside 'quality'.

Acura is far from my personal favorite, and I've never owned one personally.

Kia, so far as I can tell, isn't near up to the level of Acura, though the point of 'more features' = 'more things to break' is a valid one.

I'm really sort of lost as to what this 'study' is really supposed to tell us.
 
You can't really look at two car manufacturers and say one is better in any regard if they are only 9 apart on this chart. That probably is not even significant. However, if you look at Jeep and see 50% more problems than average, you can probably say that is significant. And from my experience with jeep recently, that didn't come from nowhere.
 
This quote makes me somewhat skeptical of the results. Are manufacturers getting dinged because some customers can't figure out how to use the radio? Yes, difficult to use radios are a design flaw, but not a quality issue if they work as designed.

In particular, he noted, issues with difficult-to-use audio and entertainment controls and voice command recognition failure are among the top 10 problems most frequently reported by customers. "Since hands-free communication for drivers will become a mandate in more and more areas throughout the U.S., this will need to be an area of continued focus for automakers," he said.

It is of no real value if you ask me, because the time period that they do the survey is too small. Not only that, but they should show you the breakdown of each model.

That would be extremely enlightening, to see the 'problem areas' associated with make/model specifics. I imagine 'iDrive' causes lots of problem reports.
