Jcom1 connector

I'm using the MSI P6N SLI-FI mobo and i'm building a pc for the first time. I plugged in my card reader into one of the usb connector and there are two more wires comes from the pront panel that look like they also fit into usb connector slots. However, my mobo only has 2 connector spots labeled for USB. I read that the jcom1 connector is for a serial port. Would it be ok for me to plug the final plug into this connector?

Doubtful. I would research why there are two sets of wires coming from the card reader. Does it sport a regular USB socket on it? It could be for that. Don't plug something expecting a USB pinout into a COM port pinout though, that's asking for trouble.

I just checked your mobo manual and there are 2 USB sockets on the board (good for 4 USB connections). You need to understand that one USB connector on the mobo is good for 2 USB cables to fit into the 9 pin USB connector. Most case's front panel USB cables are tied together into a bundled pair to fit into one of those mobo's USB connector. If your card reader also has 2 USB connectors in it, there will be 2 USB cables from it to fit into a single mobo USB connector. Therefore, you will have 4 USB connectors on the front of your computer case; 2 built into the case, 2 from your card reader.

The other 2 wires from your card reader probably should not go into the Jcom1 connector, like VirtualLarry said. You should have a small paper manual that came with your card reader to tell you what each wire connects to. If you don't have that, go on line (Google the make of your card reader) and find a copy of the manual to check those connections. Otherwise call the manufacturer and ask...

BTW, you should wait until after you finish building your computer and installing the OS before you hook up that card reader. Otherwise, the card reader will occupy a major directory slot in front of your other HDD partitions. ie, it will be D drive and your HDD or optical drives will come later - e or f, etc. So if you want to have your HDD partitions to come first and your opticals second (C, D, E, etc) and your card reader later, hook them up later.
