Jay Leno test drives new police Interceptor.

We're supposed to get those next fall. 😀

Enjoy it. We're sticking with Chargers and I think that's a good thing. Our shop does good to fix them and has to send them to the dealership more than what you would think, they would probably look at a twin turbo V6 with AWD and just shake their heads. Personally I would like the AWD.

AWD will be awesome for winters up here. 365hp will be nice too....9ish seconds to 60 is entirely unacceptable for a modern police interceptor. I drove a Charger for a short while and other than the slow-to-shift transmission (D to R to D takes forEVER) and the terrible rearwards visibility, I really liked it.

It will be interesting as to what will happen to these new cars once their service life is over, the twin turbo AWD version puts out better than 365 HP, around here old cop cars wind up being taxis, that would be one hell of a high performance cab!.

Yeah...I don't know what they'll do with them. The spec sheet I read showed an estimated 365hp on 87 octane. That means 93 and a good tune would be an absolute blast. :awe:

I had thought so. I just wonder why the marketing rep said that it wasn't available except to police depts.

It's built on the Taurus platform, but it's different - the police model is more than just a retro-fitted civilian vehicle, and is not available to the general market.

Guess they could re-program the PCM to drop some HP before auctioning it off..

ya, I rewatched the vid, he did say the "cop package", not just the drivetrain, and that package includes more than just the drivetrain.

Even saying 'package' is misleading, because it's more than just a retrofitted Taurus. They come with fleet keys (and external locks on both front doors & the trunk), reworked suspension/subframe, ballistic door panels & composite anti-stab plates in the seat backs, airbag system designed to differentiate between bullet impacts and a collision so you don't get airbag deployment during a firefight, etc. It's pretty cool stuff.

The seats have even been designed to accommodate a duty belt (ABOUT ******ING TIME)!

that does sound pretty sweet! i wonder how the dodge charger and holden statesman police packages stack up and whether they are as highly specialized versions of their civilian counterpart cars as the tauraus interceptor.

i was also pretty impressed with the fact that the SUV shares the same platform and has very similar handling characteristics (i know the ford guy says identical, but with that much change to the weight distribution, i gotta wonder just a little 😉)

Jay Leno makes that show about as exciting as watching grass grow.
In other words it's just as exciting as his talk show.

Why don't those top gear guys test police cars? Just make a game out of it. Put one of the guys in a BMW or something and put the other guy in a cop car then race them.

It was more fun to watch them build their own police cars...until Clarkson's idea almost resulted in someones leg being removed and James got pink everywhere, Hammond just sort of failed in every way imaginable.
