Jay Leno checks out the Aventador...

Saw the TG episode with this. I wonder if what Hammond said about Lambo making their priorities for this car (first handling, then accel, speed last - I think) is true.

If this is what they came up with with speed and accel not being a priority, I can't wait to see what they'll come up with next 🙂

that thing looks stealth to me with all those angles. Maybe the coppers will think its a plane flying really low and not give you a ticket!

First lambo that I think looks good, aside from muira.

I've liked the Gallardo, but it has always been a bit too conservative for a Lambo and it took many iterations before it became really competitive. I feel like the Aventador looks fantastic and is WAY better than the Murceilago (sp?). I agree that it seems like they engineered this car properly. There will be plenty of time/years to really ring out that engine (I expect much faster versions down the pipeline), but it looks like they first focused on structure/handling to start witha good base. I hope to one day get a chance to drive one of these monsters.

I have to give it to Audi...I really feel like they've given the resources and proper direction to Lamborghini to allow them to really shine.

My favorite part of that whole clip is when Jay starts up the car...it just sounded soooo good. I also really liked the bit where he was interviewing the director of R & D. You could tell that guy was really in love with his job.

Ditto. Although, I do think the Sesto Elemento looked really damned nice too. Personally, I think the Aventador is probably too big for me to feel completely comfortable driving one, but I wouldn't turn it down. 😀

The new Cabrerra will be one to watch too, the size of the Gallardo with 600bhp and Aventador styled looks... *drool*

I'd happily drive one of those things bear. That engine compartment with the ridiculously awesome suspension is just beautiful.

That was my first thought when I watched the video. It is one of the first cars that looks beautifully advanced on the outside, and beautifully simple on the inside. Love that combo. Plus, monotone color, without rash chromeness, makes it look worthy.

7-point dry sump oil system...
Carbon fiber monocoque chassis core...
Push-rod coilover suspension...
Red-covered start button...

It's just a race car.

fapfapfapfap :awe:

Pure sex.

Kudos to Univ. of Washington and Boeing for being part of it.

My question: what happens when metal bolts wear and tear against the carbon fiber tub holes? Won't that wear a bit over time?

The bolts are mounted in aluminum plates that are laid up in the carbon fiber structure. Common practice in the FSAE/race world for CF parts.

In either case (bolting through aluminum or CF, or both) unless the bolts are loose they won't wear against the hole they're bolted through.

UW typically has a killer FSAE car. Note the girl laying across the rear wing, that's functional aero for you.

I haven't liked the last several Lambo's but I love this thing. Looks evil in black, techno marvel, and an actually good looking interior(most have shit interiors).
