"I went in there with every intention of solving the issue, being a Bronco, moving forward as a Bronco," Cutler said. "We weren't in there but about 20 minutes, [McDaniels] did most of the talking and as far as I'm concerned, he made it clear he wants his own guy. He admitted he wanted Matt Cassel because he said he has raised him up from the ground as a quarterback. He said he wasn't sorry about it. He made it clear that he could still entertain trading me because, as he put it, he'll do whatever he feels is in the best interest of the organization.

"At the end of the meeting, he wasn't like, 'Jay, I want you as our quarterback, you're our guy.' It felt like the opposite. He basically said that I needed to tell him if we can't work this out, to let him know," Cutler added. "I thought he was antagonizing me and that was disappointing because I was ready to move on, committed as a Bronco. Really, I figured we'd hash things out, shake hands, laugh a little and move forward. What happened [Saturday] was the last thing I expected. If I didn't think it could be fixed, I never would have come back to Denver. It was painfully obvious to me and Bus [Cook, his agent] it's not something they want to fix."

Consequently, Cutler instructed Cook, who also attended the meeting, to formally request a trade. The quarterback said he left town late Sunday and would skip McDaniels' first (nonmandatory) team meeting Monday as the Broncos begin their offseason program.

So where do you think he's gonna go? So many teams would give up draft picks for him right now.

WOWOWOW, if any of this is true, McDaniels is a moron. Good job picking this guy up denver

good lord. this guy sounds awful.

To those saying Cutler should not bitch about being shopped around: that's not the issue. The real issue is that the new coach then lied about it to Cutler's face, and then later made it pretty clear that he's not interested in reconciliation. If the coach had just said "hey, we shopped you around because we though cassel could be a better fit" and Cutler had a problem, I'd tell him to suck it up and grow up... but if what he's saying happened is true, I'd demand a trade as well.

I think he was trying to be 100% honest and still keep his authority.

McD, whether people like him or not has a difficult job ahead of him. Shannahan was one of the best in the league, and anyone entering Denver had to respect him because your working with a football genius. McD? Hes 32, there are a handful of people in that locker room who are older than him, he is also coming in with no head coach experience, as well as his role model Bill, well is basically a no nonsense authoritative coach (whether you like him or not he kept Moss under control also there is no drama on that team) He is trying to create a similar system.

McD thought bending over for a 25 year old QB and apologizing would interfere with what he is trying accomplish in Denver. He should have apologized, and it would have still been possible to keep dominance, but he is trying to get respect the wrong way. It takes years of both showing players the door and mentoring those who can become real team players. But the respect he wants isn't something that come with a title, but it is the experience and work that he puts into it.

This was McD's rookie mistake, he has a lot of work to do to fix it with the team and to improve his reputation in the league. He can fix this by apologizing to Jay, but being firm that it is his team and whining will not be acceptable.
